Last Chance California

The road that I took to get here spells death I do not care what anyone says one blown tire or some car not paying attention means you are going to go right off the edge. For over twenty miles we followed this road along these cliffs along an area called the Foresthill Divide. The American River looks very small compared from this height its rather scary if your a person who doesnt do the heights thing.

There were a few scenic overlook points and I was shocked by what I seen. I seen the road miles away we just came from which followed drop offs that dropped off hundreds of feet.It had to be over a thousand feet down to the bottom where the American River flowed through. All I could do is say wow as this mountainous road has no guard rails whatsoever and some of them are hairpin turns.

At one point in time there was an entire piece of the road missing where the lane turned into a single vehicle lane. When I went past this area you could see for hundreds of feet down and I thought man what if the road gives way like this section. That is the chance you take though when your out adventuring to these ghost towns perhaps that is why they died off is due to their dangerous seclusion.

This reminded me of something you would see in South American like an episode of Icy Road Truckers and well I been on allot of roads this one was one of the deadliest. Granted the views of the High Sierras were gorgeous but I thought who the F*** would build a road out here like this in the middle of nowhere. More then likely this road is within the top 10 dangerous roads in America but its only dangerous if you are not alert.

My son was looking out the window as I drove along cliffs I asked him if he was scared he was rather excited. On the other hand Tammy was grabbing her heart as I came around sharp turns where no guard rails were present. Imagine looking out your window and within a foot is a drop that goes 500' straight down.

My concern was not driving this road just other people who might not know how to drive. I had one guy come around the corner almost hit me. I actually filmed a small tanker whip around the corner nearly hitting me. People have a really hard time staying in there lane on this road which is bad for both parties period because in one of my videos I drive on this road and show you how high we are its pretty amazing.

Finally I reached my turn off which was a paved road that eventually turned into dirt. That road eventually would get more narrow and overgrown which seems to happen to often whenever I search for these ghost towns. There was yellow ribbons tied to the trees along the dirt road then seconds later dirt bikes passed me soon more dirt bikes and even more after that. In one video I was shooting you see a dirt bike go past me barely missing my side view mirror. These guys on the dirt bikes were going way to fast and one guy almost collided with me if I didn't react fast enough to veer off into the bushes that guy probably would have hurt himself.

I believe I was interrupting some dirt bike race that was happening at the time oops. The further I went into the ghost town the more stunt ramps I found made out of dirt in the road. My truck barely made it over the stunt ramps but I pulled it off and soon I was in the middle of the sierras in dense forest where the truck a few times almost bottomed out. The other thing I observed was the maze of trails and roads that went off to nowhere. I did not visit the cemetery within the town but then again I am not sure where it is located I do know however many of these roads lead to remnants of the town. Eventually after barely clearing the brush I pulled on out right in front of an old cabin right in the heart of where downtown Last Chance once stood.

Next to the house was an old beat down antique car with bullet holes in it and behind the home was a triangular red shed. There was at times signs that someone had been living in this house as we found clothing and even posters hanging on the walls. The place also was full of dust and animal droppings.

The home was not very large a small living room, kitchen and one bedroom which had a bunch of torn up memory foam. Tammy was behind the house she found out in the woods holes in the ground possibly from mining. We also found near the home wagon roads where they went to I have no clue maybe other parts of the town however according to historians most of the town is consumed by heavy foliage so finding anything out here is more of either being lucky or just being a damn good explorer.

We decided to take the main road deeper on in what went from a narrow dirt road became a single lane overgrown dirt road. There were times I had foliage brushing against both sides of my truck. It was barely narrow enough to traverse further on and the terrain was so bad even I almost was stuck a few times on these manmade dirt stunt ramps that were built out here. However when we were about to turn around after seeing various mining claim sites we seen a bunch of old mine machinery just rusting away on the side of the road.

I knew we had to be close to another part of the town with all the nicely wagon roads which crossed the one we were on it started to make more sense that this town was built throughout this forest in different areas. We found an area where the road came out to a clearing we would then hike our way into one of the oldest sections of Last Chance laid out in the early 1850's.

We would continue to hike down the main road where on two occasions we came up onto historic plaques that talked about the trails in the region. One of the trails actually takes you up to a ghost town called Michigan Bluff although its a nice hike it probably is just easier to drive there which I did just that after touring Last Chance.

The forest here seems a bit more dense so the entire town has been consumed by the national forest however after seeing the equipment in the area we knew we had to be close to more remnants of the town. Tammy and I began our hike down this old wagon road in the forest where it continued to go down a hill passing by a clearing. Through the trees I could see old wood homesteads and other structures we knew we had entered the heart of Last Chance's oldest mine which was called the Pacific Slab Mine which had cabins as well as the hydraulic pipe system.

I cut right down the hill shouting with excitement like a bat out of hell serious. I was like yessssssssssssssss lol and you cannot blame me. If your going to drive along cliffs and down this dirt road you better see something that is worthwhile. Tammy split up from us as Jarrod and I explored one half of the town. Jarrod is only 10 but he is my finest assistant out of all the years doing my work he is better then most grown men I have had with me on adventures like this. Not only that but my son gives off more EMF energy then any human you will ever meet I had his electrical impulses measured so I believe this is why he is able to see ghost and he does.

Anyhow Jarrod and I headed on out to an old cabin there was a toilet inside allot of the buildings were newer even though the ghost town was built in 1850 overtime when new mine claims were struck new additions went on all through the 1970's. So many of the miner cabins had light switches while towards the back of the mining town there was a giant warehouse. Some of the structures were made out of wood while others were made with sheet metal. There was a small seasonal creek that ran through town and another in a ravine nearby.

I have to say that during all the locations I toured this place was the most eerie like something you would see out of a movie. I think once some of you see the updates you will understand this place doesn't feel right. I go to allot of places most of them are pleasant but as Tammy states something isn't right about this ghost town there are allot of things that didn't add up.

Behind the town site is a ravine and a manmade wood bridge that crosses it. Also through the back of the town is this massive rusty pipe it runs through the entire town then goes off into the woods. There is a sign on a tree that states this town was built up and its mine in 1850 and operated till the 1970's so its been around for awhile.

Throughout the entire town were machine parts such as pipes and gears including an old metal wheel. In the center of town was a mine shaft however it was filled in with dirt you will see that in the video footage I took. There was two structures which collapsed with both of its triangular roofs just laying on the ground. One of the cabins still had bed springs inside while old power lines were strung across the town site.

There was a house built up into the hillside which had a door leading in to the basement. I did go down into the basement had a massive blast of icy cold air hit me in the face no big deal. The big deal about it was when I went to explore something and Tammy along with Jarrod watched the wooden door that I placed against the basement move all on its own then fall back down. I have no explanation for this its a pretty heavy wood door and I leaned it at an angle yet it as if something from the basement pushed on it.

There was no stairs to get into the house as I walked on the otherside of it on the porch found out they bolted the door shut. The only way into the house was an 8' platform where you had to pull yourself up and onto the deck that led into the house. When I entered the house it went down into a hall which led into a kitchen. In the kitchen was a pantry with a jar that said on it Roy's Milk Jug. There was also a living room and bedroom along with a bathroom that was very narrow and long.

Surprisingly the house was empty inside there didn't seem to be animal droppings or any signs that anyone had been inside for years. There was allot of old wood paneling on the walls and all windows were boarded making it very dark inside. It reminded me of a 70's style type of home with the cheesy wallpaper and flooring.

I did do some filming inside the house I didn't want you guys to miss out this is some good stuff. Tammy was waiting for me outside then she practically keeled over and became ill out of the blue. She became very dizzy and almost passed on out. Jarrod and I came back outside to make sure she was okay I had shut the door behind me. Jarrod made his way down then I was about to when all of sudden we heard a knocking sound within 200' away from the town site. It was loud and close trust me it happened quite a few times. I didn't want to jump down because honestly its an ankle breaking fall but at this point I knew I had to get down to the ground although in a zombie invasion this house definitely was safe from anything getting inside that's for sure lol.

I heard the knocking to but didn't think much of it but as I was getting ready to jump down you could also hear inside the foremans house the sound of heavy boots walking around. Something was inside the house that I just explored something was inside walking around as if it were the ghost of a miner at least that was our speculation. I do not know what to make of it but imagine you just get done exploring an abandoned house with one way in one way out then you close the door lock it all up and hear something inside. I ended up eventually jumping down from the second story I did a perfect landing no room for mistakes not a place I wanted to spend the night at.

We finished up a few photos then we made our way out of dodge. Maybe the entire town isn't haunted but this house was. There is no explanation for the activity that took place at this house. I heard a few times some odd noises. The basement also had mule stool in it which I thought was a bit odd and perhaps in an area I didn't expect to find. Speaking of the basement I took video down there talk about an eerie little place it felt like I was in a wrong turn movie.

As we hiked on up the wagon road and out of the town site I felt watched. Tammy and Jarrod were up ahead of me. I know something was out there watching from the forest as we were exploring this town. I do not think it was human but I do not think we were alone out here either. I have never been to a ghost town like this especially one of this depth in the High Sierras it was an entirely different experience for me.

Near where we parked there was a pile of stones near the road it looked like a grave marker of some kind that was another thing we found. Also behind the town was some kind of wagon trail hell maybe it led to more parts of the town or maybe the location we found is what was left of the town. However I do get the feeling there are more hidden remnants of the town within this forest. I know that at one time there were 8 miles of tunnels under the town I gather some of those holes in the ground probably is a swift way to get down into them but also its very dangerous so id rather just ponder on it.

The place is just odd the type of place that gives you chills hell even the name Last Chance makes you think twice lol. But all in all leaving this place was as much of a relief as it was an interesting adventure. I can only imagine what happens here at night. Who knows maybe it was not ghost at all maybe Bigfoot was watching from the thick or some wild man of the woods. But I know one thing some of the activity we experienced was ghostly which includes some EMF readings and movement throughout the town that we could not explain. Just as my son and Tammy witnessted a wood door stand straight up then slam down that I leaned against the basement entrance. So its little things that transpired that took place that will definitely initiate a second trip in the next couple of years at this location.

When we made it on out of here we no longer seen the dirt bikes the sun was going down and we would once again have to traverse the cliffs. To shave time off getting to Michigan Bluff I took an old dirt back road and my adventure would continue in the Tahoe National Forest.
