This is our picture gallery teaser trailer with music sorry but for some reason our documentary I made has been lost forever. I will however be returning soon to re-film everything and when I do this video will give our viewers something to look forward too. The Eureka Plumas Mine Camp sprung up around the early 1850's during the gold rush. When 36 men summated Eureka Peak they found gold on quartz ledges and in Jamison creek therefore tents sprung up and eventually a small town known as Jamison City nearby. Three mills were built which processed the gold mainly from the Eureka Tunnel and Jamison Mines. Gold production was said to be around 15 to 27 million which spanned from 1851 till WWII. The mine camp today is really one outdoor museum which has artifacts, blacksmith, assay office, old boarding house and the monolithic Mohawk Mill which at one time had sixty ore crushing stamps today in ruins. This mine camp has it all nature, scenery, history, mines, mills and quite a few structures. Its very well preserved and also haunted! We hope you enjoy the video of our exploration this is a place meant to be shared with the world as it truly is a gem and a real piece of wild western history nestled in the Plumas National Forest. This is an ancient place home to the Maidu who hunted and built villages here for thousands of years. The town or rather camp had about 300 residents, post office, saloons, stores etc but really what this area is known for is its the birthplace of skiing in the western hemisphere. In the 1860's miners would ski and snowshoe using Eureka Peaks trams which carried ore kegs to hoist them to the top where they reached speeds of 80mph!

For a few thousand years the ancient Northern Maidu Tribe inhabited this regions utilizing its lush valleys, forested ridges, high lakes and access to the feather river. The first White Europeans trickled into the area around the beginning of the gold rush exploring Eureka Peak for gold. When miners came to the area some of them turned towards ranching others decided to mine in some of the local camps that sprung up here including nearby Jamison City.
 
Mining truly begin a short time later around 1851 in fact many Maidu ended up being laborers in some of the mines and you had to have them because Eureka Peak and the milling that went on was a huge undertaking. In fact Eureka Peak today has over 60 miles of tunnels within it which also required a large milling operation to crush all the ore taken out of the mine as well.
 
In 1872 a British Mining Company purchased the mines here and they built the Mohawk Mill which is one of the largest stamp mills in the state of California its a beauty which is the main focus of this video is I wanted to show our viewers the mill before its all gone. Most of the mining or during its heyday transpired between the 1890's till bout 1904 in fact the mill and mines produced around 17 million in gold during its productive lifetime.
 
It took allot of men to operate the 60 stamps within the mill then of course you had the miners then local ranchers, as well as the people who ran businesses out of nearby Johnsville a short walking distance from the state park. But prior to it being a state park this was one hell of a mining camp full of homes, blacksmith shop, assay office, super intendents home which ill briefly show you on film it has a white picket fence where a little girl died during a pandemic and she haunts the restaurant down the road in Johnsville.
 
I will take you around the mine camp you see years ago I lost the footage or documentary so I had to come back and refilm it all so that is why I am releasing this video footage. Sadly from years ago till now I can see that the camp has deteriorated considerably for example I do take you to the Eureka Tunnel back then it had a grate over it and was labeled down it collapsed and its just a giant collapsed room with another grate so you cant go deeper into the mine but you use to be able to stand outside of it now their are wood beams holding up the inaccessible area which I climb on into as risky as that is you will get to see it.
 
Ill take you inside the massive Mohawk Mill a couple levels within and we will hike around the camp so I can show you the complex which is full of rustic red buildings including the museum which use to be the hotel and boarding house. I will also take you into Johnsville nearby which served the miners so that they could get a hold of supplies, food and utilize the post office.
 
I tried to take you up to Eureka Peak years ago you could drive up to the peak and hang out or hike around Eureka Lake now that is off limits so I was not able to get the footage their is also the mammoth mill I could not go up to sad to say. But walking around should give you an idea what life was like at one time here as bells and whistles use to go off regularly and you could hear the stamps crushing the ore. This was a massive mining operation today its just part of the state park and it is deteriorating with time unfortunately.
 
I wanted to come back refilm it all because it is in a high fire risk area but at one time this place was booming it was a large camp and it had one of the finest mills out of any mine camp on the west coast. Its quite extensive and I really want others to enjoy it for what it is because this is one of the most wealthy mining camps in California so their is plenty to see. At one time back in the day their use to be a tram system miners would ride them to the peak and ski its where some of the first competitive skiing transpired here in the United States so the area is very rich in history as ill fill you on in during this walkthrough of the Park today.
