I do not think that I could be more excited then to have the ability to camp out in the sierras for an entire weekend. I was excited only due to the fact that I never camped in the high sierras before. Sure we have camped in the foot hills years ago when I was touring the area but the difference is this adventure would put us into the heart of Bigfoot country.

I know some people think your crazy when you start talking about searching for Bigfoot. But the area we have been working with has an reasonably high amount of UFO sightings. Thus if UFOs are seen then anything is possible in this region.

This trip would be special in the fact that my entire family would be coming out including the dogs. I was not sure if I would find an ideal place to camp as Labor Day weekend is a busy time of year. However in the sierras there are hundreds of old dirt roads, wagon trails and areas to camp.

I only wanted to commit to having a good time which would include swimming, fishing, hiking and exploring. When you camp your able to investigate on a deeper level. Of course at night back at camp is a great way to listen for strange things happening. This is at least what I had hoped for thus I choose the Kit Carson Camp.

The pass itself is about 100 miles almost which gives you an idea of how wide this mountain range is. The camp resides near where Kit Carson first originally served as a guide for an explorer named Fremont. After there exploration a wagon trail would be built eventually turning into a designated highway. Along that highway in the pass are many sites much like Kit Carson Camp however each area is unique in itself.

We finally were able to camp here as this area stays gated most of the year. Personally I am not sure I could find a better area to camp. I set up the tent between giant granite boulders below the mountain which had steep cliffs. The river was just down the hill and we were nestled by trees. It was a nice little area to cook steaks....and hike around.

Camp Kit Carson

Our first night here was fairly quiet we went down to the creek I took one of my dogs let the kids play. I am always investigating kids or no kids. I work well regardless of who is with me because I am determined at all times to collect date and research every location we tour.

In this case the sun was setting we left Friday evening so we would not have much time to explore. Originally Tammy and I were only going to stay till Sunday however we decided to stay an extra night here. Personally myself I was a bit disappointed with how expensive it was to camp here as opposed to the many free areas you can set up camp. However Camp Kit Carson was named after the pass and the river nearby thus I expected it to be a bit more expensive.

I spent most of the weekend fishing, playing football and chilling in my hammock over a tree. The kids ran around and everyone was pretty excited about being out in such a scenic place. Between the trees there was a giant massive peak with snow on it.

At night my dog seemed restless constantly crying constantly staring off into the woods behind us. The woods eventually climb up a steep hill where it meets up with these granite cliffs. There are ways to get around it such as canyons and such but my theory was anything could come down into our camp. An animal could come down the mountain so we had to be careful always putting the food back into the truck.

Two days in a row the kids swam in the Carson River as this is the only time the river slows to a halt almost and becomes much more shallow. Otherwise during the spring the river is raging and although people white water raft it is very very dangerous. So it was nice to be able to walk around in the water trying to catch some craw fish and sitting up on an ancient tree.

I can say that nothing strange happened back at camp despite my three nights sleeping here. We collected plenty of firewood as the caretakers told me the reason why this place was closed almost all summer is it was overgrown so they had to but dozens of alpine trees so that people could get back here to camp.

There was a Chinese guy who was taking a walk to make sure that people around here are not breaking the rules. There isn't to many but when there are fire hazards and alerts you are expected to keep the fire to a minimum. Just as they enforce dogs on leashes and a bunch of other rules that make you scratch your head. Well Rascal got loose and somehow he pulled himself out of the harness. He ran up to the caretaker growling and barking not sure what that was about but I assumed that he thought this individual walking in the dark near our camp was a threat. You cannot ask for a better guard dog and it was great having him at night around to watch camp.

Of course this was a great place to bathe my dogs as well by throwing them into the river as well. I did do a little fishing caught a couple trout. I was just happy to be outdoors you have to understand I live within minutes of places like this so I get to see them regularly. But camping here makes you appreciate these places much more as if its a second home.

I also met a ranger here something id like to get into someday myself because I do believe in protecting the forest as without it id have nowhere to hike. There was a major fire warning however the ranger allowed me to have a fire especially after he knew we were making smores he just told me to keep the fire about a foot high.

We did not see allow of wildlife not even through our camp however there was two stellar Jays that hung around. I photographed and video recorded one of them. Tammy also made a video of one swooping down stealing the dogs food. We also seen other things like a giant spider near our fire warming up and some odd insect I never seen before. I did not however see any deer which is odd considering the Kit Carson area is usually full of them.

The kids and I actually went behind camp where there is an entire area with hundreds of granite rocks all piled on one another. We climbed allot of these rocks finding at least 3 caves/dens. The dens had no sign of life in them however one had foliage growing inside the other one was flooded.

My search for Bigfoot would continue onward and there is no doubt in my mind that these stacked rocks provide a home for some of the wildlife in the area. You can see some of our video footage on youtube from the caves we discovered. I had noticed higher up on the cliffs were also caves these places may or may not serve as a place where Bigfoot dwells. Its obvious that this is a creature that stays underground during the day and at night it comes out for a snack.

Climbing the rocks was hard my kids jumped to each one like it was nothing. Some of the drop offs were 15' and a few times I almost didn't make it. I squeezed, climbed and jumped to each granite rock. In some of the dens I had to crawl down into them as they were not very large just a pocket created by granite rocks which were left behind during the last glacier age.

Afterwards we decided to gather fire wood and try to hike to the peak behind our camp. We found a seasonal creek in the woods. But there was also a rock overhang where we found a series of strange tracks. The tracks had no tread and they looked fairly large as if something was trying to travel along side of the hillside rather then down it. I noticed there were slide marks as if something was having problems trying to traverse this steep terrain. There were a few tracks but nothing that would appear to have been made with a shoe or boot.

What it looked like is as if something came from this large canyon just a few hundred feet out near the overhang. Then it would cut over and down where the camp site is. I could eventually see our camp site and Tammy. I thought to myself maybe something is coming off the mountain and watching us with curiosity. I did measure the tracks they were around 14" to 15".

The area we found the tracks was not part of any trail we just went up the side of the mountain till we almost reached the cliffs. We were almost level with most of the other mountains that surround the Kit Carson Pass. More then likely at one time Kit Carson and his party encamped at this site and probably made use of the river below thus this is a historically beautiful place.

I did hate having to go home sometimes I just want to stay and keep searching for the unknown. Nobody tells me I have to do this I do it because I want to. During my journeys into the Sierras I have come to realize that there are so many hidden jewels anything could be up here.

I was happy to have conquered the Toiyabe National forest which btw is full of granite, small caves and giant alpine trees. Every part of the sierras is unique in its own way much like this camp which sits right near the Kit Carson Pass.

All was fairly quiet while camping here unlike the Camp outs in PA where critters and even Bigfoot barrels through your camp this area was much different. I felt more then anything watched and my dog was very bothered at night by the woods that go off into the wilderness.

Being here is like being in another world you can stare off into the mountains but being in them is different. The area is very scenic tiny rapids you can hear from the creek, birds chirp in the morning and the air is so pure. Does Bigfoot roam this region hard to say but with all those large dens we found and odd tracks up in an area very few men ever traverse in gives me some indication that there is a high possibility.

Our first camp out in the high sierras was an experience not just for me but for everyone including my dogs. These are areas we will continuelesy monitor for activity. Sadly just an hour from our departure the gates were locked only to stay this way till summer rolls around many months from now. With that in mind this is why creatures like Bigfoot will continue to remain elusive as areas like this are barely ever touched by mankind.

Bad photo I know the sun was beaming down making it hard to photograph this track. Nonetheless this track was found near a rock overhang up on the mountain side of the Kit Carson Camp. The climb to the top is almost hands and knees its so steep. However this print was found near the overhang. It is about 6" wide by about 14" to 15" long! My dog kept whining and staring at night in this direction maybe something is living or watching from this area other campers its hard to say. But there are no trails not even remotely close to where I found the track. Notice the pine needles are pushed aside this is because this track was made in soft sand at an angle as if something stepped down slipped a little pushing the pine needles aside!
