 The Krome family cemetery is hidden amongst a grove of trees really its all that remains of the family mansion. I believe the walls around the cemetery may have at one time been part of the mansions basement not sure though. Because nearby their are massive concrete slabs uprooted which were probably part of the mansions foundation. I
went to this site because its supposedly haunted for years the locals
thought at least it was. The area is being developed with sub divisions
but at one time it was very rural here in fact it still kind of is
except now their are homes surrounding this little cemetery. Rumor has
it that a ghostly lady walks the grounds, supossedly slaves and today
the cemetery is near the fourth hole of the local golf course.
 The
mansion was said to have a fire and burned down but people who explored
it said that the concrete walls had shackles. So its believe that the
family may have had used the basement as a holding pen for slaves who
were to be sold on the market back prior to the civil war.Its
a small cemetery with graves of Charles W, Charlotte, Charles M. and
Anna. The rest of the graves are broken or in pieces its really in bad
shape. But the graves here were the family that lived on this site and
they probably were southern sympathizers. Not something you seen to
often in Illinois but it did happen time to time.
Their
is a golf course near the cemetery even homeowners that bought the
homes had no clue that was what was hidden in the trees. Supposedly
their are ten burials here within this grove but again the around of
vandalism its hard to know that just from walking around so some
interments are unmarked.
 Charles
William Krome passed away in 1876 with his wife following Anna Krome in
1885. Both are laid to rest with a prominent monument while other
family members are buried around it. Charlotte's gravestone is broken
at the base leaning up against a broken Obelisk. Charles and Anna's daughter Mary is not buried in the cemetery. Mary met and married Carl William Fred Lange in 1863 whom then platted Marysville in 1900. The town was then incorporated in 1902 naming it Marysville to honor his wife and after Mary. The
mansion stood here for decades it was just in ruins for years until
crews removed most of it because they were building new homes in the
area plus they had a golf course so they thought it was an eyesore. Its
to bad they did not leave it alone id love to at least explore it
further even if it was in ruins. You can see a few slabs left behind
from it but that is it. I read that it was part of the underground
railroad and that the home changed hands many times. So at one time
maybe it harbored slaves other times it may have been used to conceal
them. But it had a tunnel supposedly in the basement.
The
home when it was abandoned became a place with many vagrants it had
several fires but the last fire did it in completely. Sadly the owners
wanted to sell the home to Madison County but when the sale did not go
through it deteriorated because it was not being maintained. Supposedly
the cemetery is located where one of the mansions fields was but I
still think the wall and steps may have served some other use its hard
to say for sure. Its very overgrown now as opposed to years ago you
could drive past the cemetery and physically see the graves now you
cant.
I
still felt like it was a really awesome location to add to our website
because it has rich history and it was more then just a cemetery. Many
families lived on this site their is energy present I am sure. I did
not spend much time here just a little awhile to get some photos and
videos for our viewers. Its a good story and locally its one of the
haunted hangouts worth a gander so we stopped here and did some
exploring. Their will always be some mysterious associated with this
site whether they harbored or saved slaves which makes it a fascinating
