Blue Lakes is nestled deep within the sierras perhaps a world in itself for those who have adoration for the beautiful outdoors. As beautiful as it may be our main goal with this region is to prove that Bigfoot exist or at least try to gather evidence surround these sister lakes. The lakes are connected by a creek where a dam separates both lower and upper lake. A ghost town also resides in the area that like most mining towns also went bust only for nature to consume most of the towns remnants.

Over the years Bigfoot screams and other strange occurrences have been reported in this region particularly from campers. The Blue Lakes area in the winter is treacherous as the area is inaccessible for most of the year. Due to this factor something cryptid would have the seclusion it needs to remain elusive. The Blue Lakes area also serves as a gateway into the Mokelumne wilderness which surrounds the basin where the lakes reside.

In the 1940's the dam had raised the lakes quite considerably as this area is surrounded by multiple ponds or smaller lakes in the region. However due to heavy snowfall the dam does retain allot of the water found within the lakes. My first exploration of the area was in July of 2011 as we hiked on a trail that went between the lower and upper Blue Lakes. I noticed that in the forest there were snow drifts as high as 10' in the middle of summer. Due to this factor the Blue Lakes area is closed for most of the year and highly in accessible. This may be a factor as to why this is Bigfoot's stomping grounds. The mountains that overshadow upper Blue Lake contain allot of snow and remain in solitude for anything to run amok.

There is not allot of history to the area as Blue Lakes sits nestled between Ebbetts and the Carson Pass so in most cases it was always overlooked by early pioneers. But it was also to treacherous to take wagons back into. I know as due to several attempts the gates were closed leading into the area due to heavy snow that covered the dirt road leading on into this scenic location. However near its neighbor in Hope Valley the cattle ran free and there are a couple ranches nearby.

Like most lakes in the sierras they were formed by glaciers and volcano's. I realized upon hiking to some of the peaks that surround the lakes that allot of them were formed by volcanic activity. Thus it is very possible that these volcanoes also formed lava tubes or created caves thus which would provide shelter for a creature like Bigfoot. Some of the peaks are covered with orange, yellow and black rock. Although I have been to volcanic sites this is the first type of rock I ever encountered of this kind.

In addition to all of this within the area is an old mining ghost town which we have not visited although I did come pretty close to touring it. So technically the first white settlers to see the Blue Lakes area were miners. Prior to that the natives fished in these waters and hunted as the area is quite abundant with wildlife. Due to this factor it means that Sasquatch would have enough food and water to thrive.

Out of all the camping and fishing spots in the Sierra this one is highly rated as dirt roads follow the lake through a basin of snow capped peaks and meadows of wild flowers. Its an area our team will work with from time to time. There are many trails and places you can explore that man has not stood on in centuries. Sure during the summer this is a bustling place surrounding the lakes but once you go up into the mountains you may just be the only human for miles as you climb the beautiful granite formations found among a forest of evergreens.
