Of course the cemeteries sit outside of the town site so they count as separate locations. The town is surrounded by rolling meadows.....mountains and even a state forest its gorgeous here. I pulled up to a scenic viewing spot then into the downtown area. Today the town most of it at least remains with allot of large homes surrounding it. I spent a few hours here with the kids we explored whatever we could find and I found some of my best photos came from here. If I had time id came here at night but again that goes with never enough time to see and do it all we just explore and take a shot at the paranormal. I stopped near the old general store....and wells Fargo building. Some buildings were restored their was an old airplane and farm machinery scattered around the town. I found at least four sets of stone ruins many collapsing. The tourist office was about to close I am made I didn’t walk in to grab some historical material they closed and so I had to set off on my own to look around. We stood in the basement of one of the homes while we stood on an old gun shootout site. Their were so many scattered ruins but some were in tact with very tall walls. Their was an old stone church with a monument while nearby a set of mine carts on tracks with a rusty old tractor nearby. The kids had fun lots to explore here and I still was taken all in with the view. There were some rude people trying to get in my photo seems like most tourist don’t give a damn at these places about respecting other people. There was allot of fauna growing amongst the ruins while in a canyon we found a chimney and some old mill ruins with a chute. Some local was watching me take a photo near it just as they were when I visited the old school ruins which was just a foundation. I hate when people stare people know I am no tourist if I am climbing and photographing its obvious but still. The canyon in the back of the town was killer their was a road down into it never took it but almost climbed down this wall to the mill ruins. This town seemed to thrive on its mills so we decided to take another road which led me to a hidden mill in a valley where I stood on this 10 foot wall. I also found an old mine chute went to the top found a pit that seemed bottomless. Across the pit was bars of steal. So I carefully walked over the bars standing directly over this pit holding tightly on. I got on my hands and knees looking down the pit it turned out to be an elevator shaft down a silver mine the only one of its kind as it was the only silver found in sandstone. I seen kids come up behind me sadly no parent they were not even my kids and well I thought to myself hmmmm these kids can fall in I am sort of a big guy so you would have to chop a leg off of me to get me down the hole. So it was not safe for a small little kid to be climbing around at. The mine was cool it was a rush you talk about adrenaline to stand over a pit that was 15 feet across was epic and I did it. I also found down the road another mine but it had iron bars on it and I couldn’t get in but the cool air felt great. Its ashamed but many kids visit this place and tourist so thats why it had to be done because not everybody is as safe as some of us mine explorers are. I also drove down a road into a a small canyon with a stream found the brewery that was pretty cool no beer though had some in the ice chest lol. The stream ran by the brewery in a woodsy area very few realize that Silver Reef is huge I know I did not see all of it but I did some nice little drives and hikes around the town. Tammy actually found a really old broken bottle at the Brewery site the glass was very thick and dirty. I even found the old town site map it was just a giant town with hundreds of residents. This town was actually a giant square with residential streets.....it was a rather giant community hard to believe none of it hardly exist anymore. My main focus was the pioneer cemeteries which sat near the mine but outside of town. I wouldn’t go there for paranormal but rather exploring because it does tie in with the towns history. These folks lived and they died here its that simple. There was also some four wheelers going down the rolling hills passing parts of the town. I sure wish I had one of these but on foot was okay also the town sits up on a hill and off in the distance are so many different types of environments which includes desert, woods and snow capped mountains even pretty cool. We then moved onto Silver Reef Protestant Cemetery which really will give you guys a perspective of what a real old west cemetery looks like up in these mountains.
