Pacific Daylight Time Subj: [ParanormalSinCity] My Exploration At Alamo Nevada...... Alamo Cemetery & Pahranagat Valley
Wildlife Refuge
This place is not as easy as I thought to find although signs are found on different streets the turn off for it is a hit and miss being the fact that their are so many hilly dirt roads. The kids and I spent over a half hour driving around Alamo past ranches then past some of the older homes. It was apparent that this was a farming town as many locals had some sort of animals found. I never believe what google maps tells me because we found a street name with one of the prominent families buried in that cemetery that ran perpendicular but the street sign that ran into the cemetery was missing. I was kind of amazed to find out that despite the oasis this place was we could not find a super market just a couple schools, baseball field and park. The entire town was full of houses with pasteurs or back yards with peoples antique cars. I went down this one road the weeds were growing 4 feet high nobody been on it in ages we thought we were at the cemetery gates found out it was some abandoned road with a dead end. My entire reasoning behind visiting this location was to visit the grave of William Stewart a politician who lived in Kanab and probably authorized the Montezuma treasure digs up near Escalante when he was mayor. Do you see the connection I am getting at that in May I did a projected dealing with Montezuma's gold and here we had another persons name in relation to the tales of gold. This was a pretty cool area to off road at since we found an old railroad bed, took a tour of the towns dump driving around heaps of garbage....then noticed that the town was rather vacated not hardly even a soul out. I cannot say I blame them the temperature was rising as we arrived at the cemetery. With some luck someone four wheeling gave me directions to the cemetery and to our surprise we were within a half mile of it. There was supposed to be an airport within town we drove out to it I seen nothing but canyons, mountains and empty desert. Perhaps this at one time was where the airport was but today nothing remains no runway or planes. The town is quaint but kind of eerie like for example their is this mean ass lady who works at the courthouse. Last year on the phone she was rude and in person she was ruder. I could tell Alamo makes her unhappy but for me an oasis in the desert is fun grass to run on......lakes to dip into....trees to hug and climb not only that but smelling real cow shit wtf else can you ask for while touring a cemetery. I heard that this is an area prone to cattle mutilations just up the road from Alamo is the extraterrestrial highway and groom lake. I do not have to say much of anything when I mention area 51 some of you understand that if you are not under the sky you wont see UFOs. I had fun off roading with the kids then to pull up to the old sign that said Alamo Cemetery was a real treat. I would not see a cattle skull here but their was some mild vandalism for example a bench tipped over which I fixed. I just love taking the road to nowhere getting lost seeing where it takes you. I had my sons look for the politicians grave but what we found out is he had quite a few family members buried here. The weirdest thing about this cemetery is that you had 3 main family names all mixed in next to one another. For example a set of Stewarts would be next to another family plot then way off in the middle of nowhere near a fence would be another Stewart name all by their lonesome. This cemetery was much more maintained it had a few grass plots, nicely polished wrought iron fencing around a grave site, angel statues, wagon wheel, copper stones and even a model car in a bullet proof case which was badly vandalized. The cemetery however was missing trees and bordering it was a goat farm. I made friends with a goat as he showed his teeth for us in a photo. My son said dad stick your hands over and touch the goat I thought at the movement I am good didn't want to give him finger food they sort of looked hungry lol. Strangely we never found the stone we were seeking or gravesite perhaps because Williams grave was not labeled. I noticed a few unmarked graves missing epitaphs or blank rather. One of them had a flag and flowers. Speaking of flowers the air smelled of them most flowers were fresh. I seen a sign that stated reserved for the chief and it had horse shoes nailed to a wooden board. Another site we came across had a stone book with two wrought iron plots while across from that was a giant mound of dirt with no tombstone. Strangely a house on another hill over a mile away started casting a reflection perhaps the sun but it was bright took a photo of it. I also did take EVPs here but it was getting hot and we were all getting thirsty and hungry after spending a good 45 minutes reading epitaphs. I found a cross that was not where it belonged so I put it back onto the gravesite. Generally other then that the thing with day time trips to cemeteries is just to let people view the photos which show off the uniqueness of this place. You could have a beautiful grave site then next to it a doll laying on the dirt with wilted flowers. It almost seemed like their was segregation amongst families or both of the major family plot names were connected perhaps by marriages as I seen one plot with both names side by side. The entire town surrounded us as we explored the cemetery and talking to goats. I did not feel much energy here but the doll took the cake in eeriness felt like it was watching me. Not to mention the fact of the upper burial mound of dirt which looked like someone just pour dirt over a coffin and left it unmarked. Trees bordered some of the cemetery while little fences and rocks bordered some of the gravesites. I been to many family cemeteries but there had to be almost 50 to 100 Stewart grave sites all buried here within the past century. Just up the road not far from the cemetery is a dirt road that leads into the valleys oasis which is a series of wetlands and even a lake. Their are actually trees and grass growing here so our first stop was at some youth camp area where I stood on this lemonade stand or hotdog shack or whatever it was. Along that same road were warning signs to drive only 10mph due to dust well I was like oops because we had a large ass dust cloud following my car. We hiked around you could hear locust and way off on a hill in the distance were sheep in a field. I drove around a part of the lake took some of the trail that went for a few miles. I found some cool spots to camp right on the lake if I ever visit here in the cooler months. We drove to a few places along the lake then found an old wagon road which ran along the refuge. We seen a giant blue heron and in one of the inlets some very large fish perhaps carp. I found this private location by the rocks where I partied my one son went into the water while the other one was looking around. It was getting hot so I changed out of my clothes here my son was having fun with 12 foot long tree branches and then I shouted to the boys burgers so that was it. We packed it up ate some snacks and listened to classic rock the entire way home. You see all these nature signs on the refuge but really you do not see much but allot of tall grass and trees. The one bad thing about being out in the desert not so much the green oasis or valley but actual desert is rattle snakes. It did not appear their were any hospitals and from my research I found out the area surrounding this valley is full of ancient petroglyphs and that the natives depended on the oasis for their survival. The water is super cold at the refuge and just down the road we found a pretty big lake but had to start heading on home. I guess that what I am trying to say is so many people travel passing all these locations never really knowing the beauty each location has. You would never know that the valley serves as an oasis or that not to far away from here is this ghost town that is one of the largest in the state of NV. It is things that I experience like this that keep me pushing on to see and do more. After the journey home it was well earned we stopped for churros and major cheeseburgers it was a great time. I bet you the valley has some tall tales such as UFOs sighted in the area, cattle mutilations and even native American legends. This was an area at one time that was part of a ghost town that was confused by the growth of Alamo thus the only signs of such places that are left are its permanent guest left on a hill in a quaint dry cemetery. Of course I felt bad Tammy missed out then again if she seen all the off roading we did......and bloopers in the graveyard it might spook her a little so we kept a tight lid on all the adventure and will be bringing you guys some good hard earned scenic photography on our updates and hopefully we got some good ghostly EVPs along the way. The one thing that was great is sitting in the shade on a rock on the water just talking about the paranormal with your kids and of course giant cheeseburgers. I am pretty observant of things and noticed a dry lake perhaps in a couple decades places like this might no longer exist as deserts expand, global warming increases and alas great freezes take place creating new lakes to be. One area we drove reminded me of the dry grasslands that are seen in Africa as this refuges lake was very shallow. None the less its been an exciting week for me being out in the desert all the way to being in ancient pine forest. We will be making another trip out this way perhaps this winter to a ghost town hidden so deep and tucked away from Alamo that we will have it all to ourselves to explore and delve into. This is a very interesting part of NV and we got some nice material out of the trip. We never did find William Stewart's grave but we did find some other jewels in between. I did want to say though the strangest thing about my trip is the fact that my radar detector went off constantly no matter where I drove in town out of town or even on the highway. I have used my detector for other purposes to for example equipment failure readings or power loss when in secluded areas. I noticed allot of odd fluctuation yet no indication of what was causing it. I bet them local ranchers in the area have some tall tales to tell about those mountains surrounding the refuge, lake and cemetery sites.
