The Lost Tapes are my own personal audio logs I had about 7 miles of hiking in the dark. I was very distraught over heading back without Rascal. I was stressed out, sad and full of emotions. I was mad at the world but at the same time I had to stay focused in order to get out of the wilderness. It didn't take long to realize that once the sun went down here this canyon became very unfriendly.
I came to realize that as I was hiking through the foliage I could hear something moving around. It seems to move when I was on the move but at times hearing branches breaking behind me really raised my senses that with whatever made the tracks may also have been tracking me.

Although their is a trail that meanders through the canyon it is very easy to lose. This is because it crosses the creek, traverses through thick foliage and other paths cross over it. I was recording this ending up in tall grass having to retrace my steps quite a few times to make sure I stayed on path. Wandering could mean ending up in a different canyon which in turn means being lost at all cost I could not afford to get lost.
At this point after hiking for a few miles whatever was out there was getting closer to me. I felt stalked it didn't matter where I went branches kept breaking and something was walking around in the woods. I can understand animals roam this region but whatever was following me was stalking me for miles in the dark. I had very little light and the woods were so thick in some areas. You just never knew what might wait around the corner of a tree or rock formation.

The terrain is very hostile at times the trail disappeared as it crossed piles of rocks or Highland Creeks. To make matters worst I was hit with something as if something threw something at me. Although I was not hit hard something did hit me so I had a feeling I had overstayed my welcome in the canyon. Where do you go when you come across a pile of 30 boulders in the dark? This canyon is becoming much more hostile at night!
As I cleared the woods the canyon opened up to a clear sky. That last mile of hiking was a very lonely steep ascension to get out of the canyon. Whatever was stalking me stopped as behind me I left the Iceberg Wilderness. It was obvious that it was not going to follow me out into this open area. I could hear Highland Creek flowing and as I followed it I knew I was nearing my park.

When I arrived at the truck I seen a set of green eyes looking at me I knew that was Rascal. He stood up took a step then charged at me full speed shaking and tail wagging. He was scared to death but he apparently hiked back through the canyon for miles on his own. We were reunited not sure how he found his way it was not by scent since we at times walked through the creek but perhaps he is just that amazing. This clip was taken from inside the truck after we were reunited he fell asleep as I was recording it. A pretty amazing story if you ask me!
