Flight Attendant Deploys Emergency Slide For No Real Reason, Makes Hasty Exit

A flight attendant's hasty and bizarre exit from a United Airlines airplane is going viral.

Video posted online showed the employee sliding down the emergency slide that she allegedly deployed shortly after the aircraft's arrival at George Bush Intercontinental Airport in Houston on Monday morning. She then walked away from the Boeing 737:

I got video of the flight attendant sliding down the emergency slide at Bush airport. We'll have a story at 10. pic.twitter.com/3MHq35L7Y9

There was no emergency nor evident looming need for her to leave the aircraft so quickly, and airline bosses were in the dark as to why she opened the front door and inflated the escape chute in the first place.

United said it suspended the unidentified employee from flying duties.

"We hold all of our employees to the highest standard," a spokesperson told Mashable. "The unsafe behavior is unacceptable and does not represent the more than 20,000 flight attendants who ensure the safety of our customers."

The aircraft arrived in Texas, carrying 159 passengers and six crew members, from Sacramento, California, at 11:26 a.m. The presumably impatient attendant deployed the slide some 5 minutes later, KTRK reported.

According to Click 2 Houston, a man was having trouble breathing at the back of the plane and had to be escorted off the aircraft in a wheelchair. It was not known if this delay led to the attendant's actions. The airplane was delayed for just 40 minutes before continuing to its next destination of Fort Lauderdale, Florida.
