The 66-year-old actor claims he was the person behind the first call to report the 1997 Phoenix Lights UFO phenomenon.

Russell told the in late April that he was flying the Arizona skies with his son Oliver when he decided to make the phone call after being unable to identify the object.

Thousands of eyewitnesses called law enforcement that night as the alleged “mothership” UFO slowly cruised the desert sky.

“I saw six lights over the airport in absolute uniform in a V shape.I was just looking at them and I was coming in, we were maybe a half mile out. Oliver said, ‘Pa, what are those lights?’ Then I kind of came out of my reverie and I said, ‘I don’t know what they are.’ He said, ‘Are we okay here?’ I said ‘I’m gonna call,’ and I reported it. They said ‘We don’t show anything.’”

Former Arizona governor Fife Symington initially mocked the incident at a press conference but that what he saw was “something that defied logic” and that it even “challenged” his reality.
