Take a drive with Lord Rick along the cliffs of Emerald Bay all the way to D.L. Bliss State Park. This is the ElDorado National Forest for us this would only be the start of our journey as we had plans to enter the trail to the reach a lighthouse and eventually. I once found an old car in the woods at the bottom of the cliffs its quite possible the driver and its passengers died. This area has a history of travesties one can only wonder about them while taking this scenic route.

This very forest we are ascending up into is home to some of the first ancients to inhabit the Lake Tahoe region as long as 10k years or so. Granted a lumberman did own this area therefore many of the threes are second and third generation alpine trees. The Washoe also known as the Wašiw spent the warmer months here hunting, gathering water from Rubicon creek and Lake Tahoe. Animals were abundant so were the fish thus the forest provided protection for the natives. What you see here is land donated by the D.L. Bliss family to the state park system in 1929. Duane Leroy Bliss was a wealthy lumberman, railroad owner and banker in the region.

As you traverse deeper into the forest you will began to see the blue waters of Lake Tahoe peering through the trees. Keep in mind we are somewhat ascending heading up towards Rubicon Point so up ahead are nothing but drop offs and steep cliffs. No less if we kept heading this way we would be sure to see some great views of the lake itself on this early morning.

This would be a good example of early lumbering which took place in the region prior to the parks expansion. Back in the day many parts of the forest surrounding Tahoe have what I call tree stump graveyards. Some of the stumps have a few hundred rings which means this is a very old forest. Eventually nature does bounce back if given the chance and it appears despite the carnage of lumbering so that Carson and Virginia City could thrive. As you can see we are getting much closer to Tahoe the water is blue, clear and you will even get to see one of its many peninsulas from above.

This vista point gives us great views of South Lake Tahoe and of course Emerald Point which is miles off in the distance. It would be the first appearance of the point we would see as we ascended to an area that overlooks the two. Amazingly as far away as it looks all the way down the step descent along cliffs I knew coves and a beach would soon await us.

This Rubicon Light was the tallest elevated lighthouse in the US and produced a radiance of about 70 candle light power. It was built by the US Coastguard the problem was that it took two 300 gallon acetylene powered tanks per day to fuel it which was costly. The keeper would have to pick up supplies daily from Emerald Bay and bring it to the lighthouse which is near Rubicon Point which was quite the trip. Then at night the keeper would have to go out onto the water to make sure it was working. Rumor has it that the lighthouse went dim in 1921 lasting only about 5 years prior to that while locals stated that it stayed lit well into the 1930's. A new lighthouse would be built and erected at Sugar Pine Point in its place eventually. You will also get to see some Steller Jays which are very native to this region.

It gets a little confusing as you need to make sure you head south on the Rubicon not north as three is a three way split. In this case we would began our trek southbound on the Rubicon on the western edge of Lake Tahoe. The trail can be unsafe you have massive granite steps, loose rock, avalanche zone area, cliffs, drop offs and places where the trail gets very narrow. All it takes is one mistake so here are some safety tips from your producer Lord Rick to help you become a better adventurer. Heading south does not descend entirely its gradual but there are areas that go uphill also our goal to get to Emerald Point. Although you can only hike here you can drive your jeeps on the eastern edge of Lake Tahoe at another section of the Rubicon Trail.

Mount Tallac is very visible in the distance with Lake Tahoe to the Southeast. Truly the edge of the Desolation Wilderness is within reach of our hike to the south however this extinct volcano is truly a dominant beast seen throughout our hike southbound on the Rubicon. I mean really between the lake and its beautiful mountains the view is worth a million dollars and now we can share it with you.

In this clip you can see Emerald Point from afar but first we had a long descent in order to even began to reach the shoreline of SW Tahoe. The point you see is extremely woodsy and somehow glaciers moved allot of rock which nearly separated Tahoe from Emerald Bay. Across from the peninsula is Eagle Point if your lucky you might see some bald eagles in the region soaring around.

As we descended into ElDorado Forest the foliage became allot more dense and there were portions of the trail that had plenty of shade. We also found this heart memorial for a pet or for pets not sure I understood its meaning. The descent can be a little steep at times you might slip on loose dirt or rocks. There are plenty of granite steps some of them are pretty big but amazingly enough the descent does began to make its way closer to the shores of Tahoe. This forest has nearly more Bigfoot encounters and evidence then anywhere almost in the country.

This is one of my not so serious videos I was just rambling about senseless commentary about myself and even others. When your in the forest hiking along sometimes its fun to talk about the crazier side to life. In this one you get the birds and the bees but you also get to see a very massive beautiful tree I came across while on the hike. This is a well used trail I even seen some kids on it and even joggers so I was trying to keep it down that I am still going through puberty did not want to freak out any hikers lol.

Some of the greatest geniuses in the world were mad or at least crazy because they sought out a greater truth. In this clip I sort am trying to connect with our viewers about the paranormal in the region and about some of my more recent experiences in regards to Bigfoot and even UFOs. This area is full of lore such as a lake monster, water babies, UFOs, USO's, Bigfoot and even man eating giants. You might find my ramblings of interest or not either way I just am enjoying myself besides the fact that we had to pass a large group of hikers who were arguing. Life is to short to argue in the land of paradise don't you agree?

From high up on the cliffs along Lake Tahoe we could see off in the distance a steam ship known as the "Tahoe Queen" from afar. This beautiful vessel will make its way between Emerald and Eagle Points taking its passengers into the beautiful Emerald Bay which you will not be able to see just yet. I would even get allot closer to the queen later in this series for all of you to full enjoy. This is the lake's only authentic Mississippi paddle wheeler and can carry 312 passengers so its rather large and a beautiful paddle wheeler.

Once you reach your final descent after going up and down for a few miles the trail starts to switch back to the Lake Tahoe shoreline. This is where you begin to see the various hues of blues that Tahoe offers, coves, private beaches and beautiful rock formations along the way. This is literally beach front property and now the Rubicon would finally level off so we could enjoy close ups of these pristine waters.

This is another safety video but its also about having faith if you do not like heights then hiking along this trail let alone anywhere in the sierras may not be for you. Your going to grace the edges of various trails that narrow and yes some drop offs are steep. Again one wrong slip, fall, loss of balance etc can lead to serious injury or even death as in this case their is nothing but brush below thus if I were to get hurt who would know? Remember their are various types of rocks found in the sierras knowing which ones suffer from erosion and which ones to stand on are very important when you are living on the edge.

Hidden coves such as the ones you see in this video are found all along the lower end of the Rubicon Trail and the Emerald Point peninsula. As you can see the water kind of gives off a feeling that your in the tropics its crystal clear and various shades of aqua to dark blue. Allot of people come down to the coves to have a dip in Tahoe's cool waters. Imagine that just so far off shore where these coves are located are quite a few sunken vessels and barges. One must wonder why there are so many various historic remnants found along these coves here did they run around? Victims of the sierra triangle? No less if you want somewhere private all to yourself to swim at this would be the place. You will also see some of the peaks in the Carson range we battled such as Jobs and Genoa Peak.

There are over 65 tributaries that feed into Lake Tahoe with milder winters and less snow each year that amount of water lessons thus lowering lake waters. Despite that factor the trail crosses the creek and then there is a few drop offs where the falls continue to flow down into Lake Tahoe itself. As I said before this is paradise how can you not love this even seeing it on video kind of gives you an idea of what I experienced and felt to see nature such as this. Keep in mind during the Spring crossing this might be a bit dangerous as waters flowing through here might be rapids just something to consider as when the snow melts falls and creeks have very swift waters.

The hike is a bit deceptive just as you hit beach front shoreline there are areas of the trail you began to ascend again including this massive volcanic cliff. Once you get around the rocks you will descend on many beautiful coves of pristine water and offshoots where you can privately enjoy Lake Tahoe with that special someone or in my case go smoke a joint somewhere lol. There are allot of jewels that await us once we reached this cove you see in the clip it would be time to veer to our left heading eastward to Emerald Point.

While roaming the woods on no set path on Emerald Point I found this very old makeshift shelter. The logs were deeply embedded into the ground so either its very old and the Earth is soft here or something was very serious about creating a safe haven. The logs were laying across the rock while some bedding was placed underneath but no less would provide some shelter from the elements. Could have been a bushwhackers design or maybe Sasquatch himself nobody knows for sure! But it was made using only the nature that surrounds it and the deep embedded logs are very similar to the Kings Canyon Shelter!

The journey through Emerald Point is a bit confusing since you cannot see Lake Tahoe or its coves from the center of this heavily forested peninsula. There really was no set trails and we had to climb over allot of logs but still without trying to get turned around stay our course. I knew eventually if I went through the forest I would come across the pristine waters of both Emerald Bay and Lake Tahoe. Its kind of free game when hiking here you go where you want and most of it is very offbeat.

From the point if you look southward you can see the very historic Vikingsholm Castle also not to far away is Tahoe's only island called Fannette. But in this video I mainly focus on the castle you will also see many boaters. We have visited the castle and hiked to it from the cliffs that reside behind it at one time. The castle was built in the 1900's with Mrs Lora Knight's wealth and had her love for Scandinavia incorporated into its architecture. Prior to that the area belonged to Ben Holladay who built a summer home then later sold the land in 1884 to Dr. Kirby who established a resort nearby then eventually the Armstrong's in 1895. So their is allot of history to the area in addition to the beauty its surrounded by.

From the Northern end of Emerald Bay the views are worth more then words can say with majestic views of Mount Tallac and Maggie's Peaks both which we have done expeditions on. Across the way is a place called Eagle Point where Bald Eagles Nest. You will also see Fannette Island which has a castle like tea house build at the top of it and Vikingsholm Castle. There is a strange story associated with Dead man's or Hermits Island about a captain who once built a chapel and tomb here. One night the captain went for a boat ride not to far from where the lighthouse is and his boat was found empty. They never did find his body however there are two places the lake monster Tessie is often sited one being Emerald Bay the other being Cave Rock.

Emerald Point nearly separated the bay from Lake Tahoe. In this area I am literally standing out in the middle of a body of water its very exhilarating considering that I am surrounded 360 degrees by cliffs and mountains at about 6,200' above sea level. By being on the point there are plenty of sea gulls, geese and sometimes Ospreys one can observe. But it also really puts this regions size into perspective therefore mission complete. This is where we would have our lunch at it was rather serene and very private.

This is a close up of the Tahoe Queen as it passes right by me as I stand right on the point waving to everyone. The Tahoe Queen is a paddle wheeler steamboat not much as changed since nearly almost a century ago these vessels would carry tourist all over Tahoe in comfort. In this case the Tahoe Queen is heading right on into Emerald Bay passing Fannette Island and coming close to Vikingsholm Castle. It truly is an all American Beauty and a vessel full of patriotic pride.

We could clearly see that a storm was brewing in the area dark clouds can signify many things in the sierras such as thunder showers, wind storms, lightening, fog, hail and definitely snow. This was one of the first signs that we would have to pack it up as we were miles from the jeep and a huge portion of the Rubicon heading northbound is an ascension that is of course if we could manage traversing the peninsula without being turned around in its dense forest.

The truth giants of the forest may not be bigfoot in this particular area but its trees hidden deep offbeat on the Emerald Point peninsula itself. You have to understand that much of the Tahoe area was lumbered to a degree of deforestation so to be able to see some trees that did not get the cut was an amazing feeling like the ones you see in this video. You never know what you might find exploring around it might be nature or something as simple as a tree that once was growing when the natives hunted on these grounds.

Seriously were not lost but then again I prefer to take the road less taken so when you cant find footpaths on the peninsula you just explore and hope for the best. In this case we managed to find our way back to the Rubicon trail through a dense forest filled with hills, surrounded by coves and thick foliage in certain areas. We were back on the trail ready to head north miles to go but refreshed from the pristine waters of the point and cool breeze. I was just happy to have seen a few fallen trees we passed by prior to that we were a bit off course finding massive trees like in the previous video no regrets those that truth seek go the extra mile.

This is some nature 101 for example it is August and many of the wild flowers are dead while other foliage is turning yellow. These are signs that an early winter is coming to Tahoe whether there will be enough snow to sustain life further in this region remains to be seen due to the many mild winters the past couple of years. Its important that if you are going to view our journeys you sort of take a bit of everything in. Sometimes it takes a hike back to realized what it is you missed or passed on by.

Although this video talks bout me nearly losing my pants, mini Lord Ricks and feeling a bit anorexic it does try to cover one important find. That find would be this small den which is big enough for a mountain lion or maybe a black bear which I am sure utilize when the state park shuts down for the cooler months. We would have some of our last views of the coves but also from afar see the peak we would have to summit in order to get to the jeep the journey would test us besides the weather was not looking so great.

Heading northbound meant many things such as cross the creek a second time, climbing massive granite steps and ascending most of the way towards Rubicon Point. Sometimes I find it easier to ascend rather then descend as footing seems to be a little better. The great thing about the ascension is that the sun was behind the clouds so it allowed me also to do allot of beautiful photography of Lake Tahoe and other picturesque geological landmarks in the region. What goes down must come up just as what must go up must come down this trail is full of elevation changes.

The storm in the region was getting worst I could look off in the distance for miles and see other regions of Tahoe being stormed on I wondered at this moment what would we encounter would we even make it back to the jeep before possibly being hit with hail or intense rain? We were really heading into the storm the further we ascended the darker the clouds appeared in the sky above us. There is no going back only forward weather in the sierras changes in a blink of a dime I been there many times and sometimes it causes someone's demise.

I called this area a primates playground afterall its perfect with allot of big trees, stumps, rock formations, foliage and steep inclines. You have to understand that a creature like Bigfoot could easily make its way from the Desolation Wilderness to this area which flourishes in wildlife and of course the fresh cool waters of Lake Tahoe further below. There are also ceanothus, chinquapins, gooseberries, currants, huckleberries and manzanita's.Such foliage may be edible to a primate like creature since there intestines are longer then that of a human so there definitely is food, water and of course vastness for such a creature to make a migratory home here.

The concept of the bark house or as some call the teepee was constructed very similar between the Washoe and Miwok tribes. Since this area you are currently seeing was the site of an ancient nomadic village they would live in such shelters which provided cover from the elements and would allow smoke from a fire to pass through the very top. This shelter differs from the massive one we found up near Kings Canyon NV as the natives used bark and smaller branches a Sasquatch may use logs instead. The Washoe would have there village back in the forest then hunt for deer near some of the coves and on some of the peninsulas nearby. They would also make there way down to the water to fish while the women wove baskets. The Washoe were very political but also they sat around these bark houses dancing and drumming on a beautiful Tahoe summer night.

Imagine that this odd rock formation is being held up by a small fissure of granite thus its 130 ton top piece is being held up on a pedestal. It could be tomorrow or many years from now eventually both rocks will separated into two pedestals. For now though this famous rock known as balancing rock has been the site of visitors for nearly a century as people came here just to have their photo taken with it. It definitely is an intriguing geological formation and were really happy to bring some footage of it to our viewers.

Mild winters cause creeks to run dry if at all like in this case as I stand on a wooden bridge. Sadly without water wildlife moves on. If no flowers grow the bees die off which means no butterflies and no deer to come down to the creek for a drink. In the Spring this creek rages due to snow melt but in August it does not even trickle which is a very sad site to see. The local natives and lumberman used this creek to sustain themselves. We are almost sure that with each mild winter we get the less it is going to flow.

I found a couple small hidden dens but when I pan to my left I reveal to you a very large cave. Due to the storm I did not get to explore it but from what I could tell the foliage kind of grew in front of it yet the top half of its large entrance was exposed. We have to take into consideration that maybe the natives may have used the cave for cold storage for there meats or that at one time maybe a Sasquatch dwelling in it during the winter to stay out of the elements one must wonder its history or how big of a room it opens up into.

Tammy actually filmed this video and you can see everything from cliffs to hair pin turns. The ride to and from D.L. Bliss one is an exciting one which takes place all above Emerald Bay and Cascade Lake. Sure some places have guard rails but not all and so you really have to know the road quite well as there is one area that your tires come within a foot and half from a cliff. I actually was up on these curves during the winter of 2011 at a place called Inspiration Point which we pass on by. Anyone care to take a ride with me as we leave behind D.L. Bliss State Park?

I learned allot living in the mountains and that is to expect the unexpected whether its the paranormal or strange weather patterns. In this case we went from driving in a hail, snow and thunderstorm all at the same time. This portion of the trip you see is at South Lake Tahoe which is a considerably large city but no less winters here can be harsh and as I said with the plant life in an earlier video in this series winter is coming soon. I seen at one point 4 inches of ice and snow buildup just a little bit after the middle of August! Freak weather or just another day in the mountains you decide? After our drive through the storm which we made it to the jeep in time we decided to head on over to the The Brewery so we could order some ales and eat some chicken wings.
