I heard about Clinton Road long before my investigation of it. It is one of the most haunted and mysterious roads in the country. Of course like most eerie roads this one has more truth to it then it does urban legends.

I really did not get a chance to walk much on the road or wander around the various sites. I had an investigator with me who said he knew the road and almost took us right off a cliff. Then a blizzard was setting in the visibility was almost down to none. I did however before visiting here do my research on the furnace,  cross castle and other sites along the road. I did not get to see them cause I was told they were a waste of my time. So alot of the photos you see are borrowed they are not mine but since I did visit here at night and hiked around a little it still is considered an investigation for our group.

The road cut through what use to be a community called Clinton which no longer exist. But like most parts in NJ these towns would die out when the production would stop. This area at one time had a furnace it still stands barely today but it does exist. I know where it is Adam says he knows where it is too that's why he almost took me over the treacherous cliff going to it.  The road is dangerous and people die here that's just the reality of it.

What is called the Druidic Temple is actually a conical structure of an Iron Smelter left over from the 1700s when ore was abundant in the area. The iron would be made and formed for the Continental army in the American Revolutionary War. It is fenced off but at one time was the site of various occult rituals.

The reservoir near the road has a story of a ghost boy near the bridge. If you throw a quarter into the water it will be thrown back at you by a ghost of a boy who drowned while swimming below. Some say they have seen this ghost boy others say that if you seen him you get pushed into the water or over the side of the bridge in order to save him from being run over as he was in life. So I am assuming the boy was on the bridge maybe an explorer perhaps hit by a car and thrown off the side into the water. Maybe its true maybe its an urban legend. I could however feel various entities on the road watching me.

Then others say there are cannibals on the road who will block your vehicle in with a fallen tree then chop another behind you. They say the local natives will capture you then eat you. This one probably an urban legend the area has the forestry that patrols the road often its highly unlikely foul play goes on since their are homes back on the road and families I am sure. But the story probably came from Jackson Whites a name for the Ramapough Mountain Indians of the area who were cannibals.

One of the most famous stories to take place on the road is when a bicyclist was going down the road and seen vultures surrounding a dead body off to the side. When an autopsy was done it was found that their were ice crystals in the blood vessels near his heart. His internal organs had decayed slower then the skin. So it was concluded that the body had been frozen after death to mislead the investigators involved on the time of death.

The investigation led to a man a few years later named Richard Kulinski who was involved with Mafia activities in Rockland County NY. He was involved in the Rockland Organized crime and was a NJ native. He did confess to being the killer of not only this victim but at least a hundred others. He claimed that he froze every one he killed and was a veteran hit man for the mob.  He then was given the nickname the Iceman and pled guilty of 5 murders where he received two life sentences and died recently in 2006. There are said to still be some bodies hidden up at Clinton Road.

Another famous location along the road is Cross Castle. In 1905 a man by the name of Richard Cross built a castle on higher land near the reservoir. Eventually a fire destroyed it and it fell into ruins. Eventually that site became a popular local hang out for partiers, hikers, campers, teenagers and even occultist.

They said that Satan worshippers would gather here and conduct sacrifices using the area as some sort of alter. Many occult symbols and writing were on the walls of the interior part of the castle. Some people visiting here would have seizures, bruises, disturbing visions and other strange sites while visiting here. All that remains today is the foundation the Newark Water department removed the walls for safety reasons. There is still a hiking trail that you can take to the site I wanted to take it and again had a problem with the investigators of my team. I just want my fans to know that so they are not let down on this I know how much it would have meant to some of you Clinton Road fans but without the right team things just are not always possible even if its a small hike to a castle foundation.

Then we have reports of KKK activity as well as witchcraft reports. The reports date back to 1905 so more then likely this is not an urban legend their has to be truth behind it. Most of the activity takes place near the brook where the settlement of Clinton use to be. The stories could have been generated by the presence of the German American Bund which maintained some camps in the area prior to World War II. The locals were mainly Bund Members. Over the years people have seen cloaked figures or rather occultist in Robes I would believe this I have heard of similar cases in other places to.

Then their is other lore like the ghostly Camaro driven by a girl who crashed in 1988 on the road and died. Then their is another story about two park rangers one night were seen near a group of campers off a hiking trail on a ridge. Later they found out those were the ghost of two Rangers who died on the job in 1939 of course this is said to be an urban legend.

Then their is lore about hellhounds, monkeys, hybrids etc which been caught in the head lights at night cross the road. Some say its supernatural others say the are the escaped animals of the Jungle Habitat nearby that closed down in 1976. It closed down due to what I heard a death or two on one of the rides. Adam was supposed to take me there but he did not I suppose some people are just not fully honest with our organization that is what separates the good investigator from the bad.

Sometimes people been chased by mysterious black pick up trucks with very bright lights. Sometimes people are seen here late at night then they vanish probably other explorers in my guess. Lets not forget the amount of UFO sightings seen from the road and Bigfoot Sightings.

Clinton road has it all and I can actually say that I visited it snow storm or not. There is also a tunnel that goes under the road made of stone with a huge waterfall. One slip and your dead no doubt about it!!!
