Our Investigations Of Ophir Hill & The Territorial Enterprise -

Even I get gifts from Virginia City but with great anticipation I could not wait to get in the basement of this old historic newspaper. It was funny because the man who mainly runs the museum and the shop above it seen me in my Santa Beard. I left to let Tammy know I was ready had the gear and it was time to do our investigations. I come back in the shop now the old Timer put on a Santa Hat haha ole Saint Lord Rick must had rubbed off on him. You see folks The Paranormal & Ghost Society brings you more then just the strange all it takes is for me to walk downtown Virginia City and pretty soon it becomes like the north pole! The main location I focused our investigation at was the basement as this is where Mark Twain worked around the clock. You had to be very careful the steps are very steep and as you walk down them you get distracted by these small models of old Virginia City. It was a basement so you can expect it to be dingy, dark, damp and cool. The editors had literally pissed, shit, ate, bathed and slept here. If you do not believe me I took a photo of a toilet Mark Twain used frequently. I am not even sure Mark Twain had any idea that some day folks like me would be studying the same toilet seat that Twain sat his ass on. But nothing is sugar coated with me this is reality and it is what it is! I like to think that their may be some kind of energy present here the basement is original its old and the newspaper survived The Great Fire Of 1975! Other businesses and people around it were not so lucky. Mark Twain worked down in this basement for about two or a little less years. I had gotten to see his desk and his books. I also had gotten to see some of the editorials and newspaper editions he had put out. There is a table where many of the editors had slept on including Mark Twain and no it did not look comfortable. Their is also a creepy baby carriage, rocking horse, clown plate, bath tub, machinery such as printing presses, theatrical posters, archives of newspaper articles every single edition, chests, mining equipment, smock with a uniform and even mounted animal heads. Some of the animals were native to the region I seen deer, geese, badger, elk and even a bull. There were two to three locations that the EMF readings were through the roof. Those locations would include Mark Twains desk, sleeping area and near the printing press. Some of the earliest editorial machinery can be found in this basement. All the way from hand operated machinery to the first powered presses. This was one of the most successful and oldest newspapers in the state of Nevada and it operated for over 100 years. It still is symbolic and historical in everywhere in regards to journalism in the west. The highest readings that had possible EMF was the sleeping area which boasted just a single large table that said a few feet off the ground. Then Mark Twains desk followed by the press! Scientifically I cannot say that the readings were authentic as we must take into consideration that there are powerful lamps wired throughout the basements ceiling and a couple cameras to watch over the artifacts found here. However in scenarios like this I find it better to take EVP's as being it was just Tammy and I any other voice recorded here can be nothing other then the dearly departed. Tammy actually left the basement for about 15 minutes thus leaving me alone to work on this investigation. So I had a moment of peace and quiet. In the back of the basement is a door with a small window which you can peer into through the stone wall. This is another room which goes underground and in turn has a secret tunnel. This area is locked up but the old timer told me that he wants to clear out all the debris, wood and clean it up. He wants to build some kind of shadow box in there and I can only imagine if this hidden dark area holds a haunt as well as I peered through the glass. I heard something in the basement it was not a voice it was just an odd sound up in the darkest part of the basement which had some really creepy artifacts. As a matter in fact there are so many artifacts down here from the past all the way from old ink pens to even a distillery. Yes the editors did drink on the job then again who am I to criticize I drink ales and smoke 420 on some of my adventures. Nothing wrong with knowing how to relax people that do will definitely put out the best work. I know that Quill, Doten and Twain who worked for the Territorial Enterprise probably wrote their best pieces of literature after a good stuff drink no doubt! There are many old creepy paintings in the basement as well including one of Mark Twain. I love art so what most would find creepy I do not. But if you were to come down into the basement and see some of the art you might find it a bit strange. One of the paintings never seems to take its eyes off you know matter where you walk or what you do down here lol. There was a wood stove one can imagine that it had gotten cold down here in the winter therefore they had to have heat. Their was also a dumbwaiter where things could be lowered this way to the editors. While some supplies was brought into the tunnels smaller things such as food could be utilized by using the dumbwaiter to lower it down. Their are old lamps, tea pots, chairs and currency. I guess my whole thing is that even if the basement or property turned out not to be haunted. What may end up becoming haunted could be attributed to some of the old artifacts. I believe energy can attach itself to for example the printing press if it was used for many years and someone passed away who spent most of there life operating such machinery. These relics of the past may be attached to something nobody really knows. But just being here was awesome and I am sure the old timer appreciated the time I had given the Territorial Enterprise. Its going to look nice on our site once the research is finalized, evidence and photography is complete on our website. He was telling Tammy that its sad that most folks can careless about the history rather never putting any time into the museum. He was glad to see that I did I guess Mark Twain had written some ghost stories for the newspaper about ghosts in this very basement. Allot of times Twain would leave the Enterprise then look up towards Ophir Hill and Mount Davidson. Kind of like I am doing he did years ago as he summated this mountain that overshadows the city. Let us not forget that Samuel Clemens adopted his Penn Name at this old newspaper. For me to be here was the highest of honors because this is real history not something your going to get on some fake paranormal show but rather your going to learn more through us because without such history you have no ghosts! I am sure if you were to spend enough time in the Enterprise you would eventually see something you cannot explain whether that is objects moving around or a full embodied apparition. Maybe even Mark Twains ghost haunts this location its hard to say but that is why we investigate these locations. We try to study them to find out who, what or why might have attributed to some a haunting. I felt a cold spot or two but its not unusual in a damp cool basement to experience this temperature fluctuation. I really hated to leave the basement believe or not I mean those dusty old floor boards have character but the walls are stone and it is a dark little place. Above the basement is a shop today its more warm, cozy and colorful. I actually bought a book its called Nevada Ghost Towns & Desert Atlas from the museum. The money that I purchased the book with will go towards the museum so its all good. The shop has all sorts of cool things you can buy. Personally every shop offers something all the way from canes, hats, T-shirts, swords, historical artifacts, gems, stones, candy, prank gifts, furniture, pipes, statues, decor etc etc. It just depends on where you go this shop had a little of everything. I did investigate the shop above the old newspaper I also had gotten to look at allot of photos from what the shop and newspaper looked like back in the 1800's. Photos were rare but they did exist and sometimes the only way to see them is to physically talk to someone who might have some or be willing to share a few for others to enjoy. Sometimes all that is left are the photos and over the years this place changed. That included the stairwell that led down into the basement was moved in the 1900's about 10' to the left. People buy up the shops downtown VC renovations change things a little but one thing is for sure the relics of the past remain that includes all the old fancy lamp fixtures throughout these businesses including the Enterprise. Their is an upstairs to the Enterprise as well its abandoned kind of off limits. This is not a large building the outside is brick there is a fire escape on the back side. Of course back in the day it probably did not exist so if their was a fire you probably would be in a bit of a pickle. I did take some EVPs and photos in the shop itself that way you can see how different the basement differs from the shop above it. I wanted to thank the old timer for taking the time to talk about some ghost towns, history and the history of the building itself. He had allot of key historical tidbits most people would never know so I have to say it was enlightening. As much as I could talk about all the great relics and history all of you will eventually have the chance to read about it on our website. You will be able to see videos, photos, relics of the past and some audio as well. I really put allot of time, research and effort into this location. Think about it though the desk that Mark Twain wrote at and today it still looks as it did a 150 years ago! So I left with allot of happiness inside me kind of like a warm fuzzy happiness where your like lets celebrate with ales lol. A man has got to survive what can I say! So we decided after the investigation to have lunch and drinks at the Palace Restaurant & Saloon which has been around since 1875. I had a juicy Philly, Onion Rings and a nice side of sweet & spicy wings. I have to say the service as always was excellent our waitress was so friendly and top of things. They have their own brews here as well so I ordered a Comstock Red Ale holy shit I almost died and went to heaven. Tammy had a pale ale they also boast that was very tasty. On my journeys I enjoy stopping in for some good eats and brews it allows me to share these places with our fans and friends alike. I left full and happy in my Santa Beard nobody looked at me odd for drinking ales in the beard lol. Maybe folks thought I was a miner or something who knows. No less our adventure up on Ophir Hill and our investigation at the Territorial Enterprise was just the icing on the cake. I spent a couple more hours walking downtown visiting all the shops. I met a shop owner who use to live by Napal and was helping his brother give tours in that area and in the Himalayas. That guy was hilarious was talking about bongs with me and telling me if I want to climb Everest he will hook me up with his brother taking me to the top lol. Like I said you get a bit of everything when you visit Virginia City. I have done it all there historic sites, cemeteries, adventures in the mountains, drinking, partying, toking up in the streets and meeting all sorts of great people. I guess you can say people are very genuine and the wild horses here roam free. As a matter in fact as we left the Virginia Range I seen three wild horses on a hillside. It looked like a very young horse with two adults. I made a day of it in Virginia City had gotten some Xmas shopping done such as finding the Sheriff Star, Leather Belt, Earrings and Ninja Star for my family. I guess behind my back Tammy bought me this really beautiful knife it has wild western depictions and artwork on it. Its basically meant to be mounted on your wall although you could carry it I have not decided yet I want to use it for both lol. I want to look at it and carry it on me to show off its so cool. But we had fun shopping between investigations and allot of times most shop owners give me a discount which will keep me coming back as a customer! The snow storm had passed through by the time we left but it was cold in VC no less the ales, great food and allot of adventuring kept us warm. The reality is that I keep my investigations cultural its more then just about ghost its about history, making memories and living up to your investigations to the fullest. I had gotten to dine in a haunted place drink at a haunted place roam a haunted basement and climb a mountain all in one day.Not many can say they do that but the wild west my friends is where it is at trust me when I say this! It will be far better for you to see our work rather then me to talk about it but no less this is a place that everyone can enjoy for years to come. Although it was our last investigation of 2015 it was a good one and ill never forget it. It was a good year we brought so many various investigations ranging from caves, waterfalls, cemeteries, historic sites, scenic locations, ancient places, ranches and ghost towns. To finish off the year roaming the basement where Mark Twains writing career took off was as good as it gets believe me. Now if you add some ghosts into the picture and some good times with those you care about id say that is one hell of a day.  This is the marble table that many editors including Mark Twain napped on while this reading could be just the lights above one can imagine their is allot of energy that would surround this old relic of the past.  The meter is almost at a level two but watch what happens when we go to the back of the press.  Same pretty just a mediocre reading but what it shows is our meter does have some EMF flucuations. I will not discount the paranormal but at the same time the basement does have cameras, bright lights and allot of wiring which can give a Gauss Meter false readings. However, if the meter begins to flucuate while you are standing still its possible an entity is present. Both EVP's however were cpatured in this area and those are very reliable when a meter is going on the fritz which signifies a haunting. |
 Same table but the EMF Gauss readings continue to climb to nearly a 10 which is at critical levels. Its a bit strange generally only very high voltage can cause a false reading. The meter is fluctuating between a 7 and 10 which is rather high.  As you go to the back of the press you get a much higher reading funny thing its darker back here which means less lights.  This is a hidden room in the basement which led to a series of tunnels that the Chinese used to travel under Virginia City since their was allot of hatred towards various ethnicities during the Silver Boom. When they did not use the tunnels merchants used them to transport goods and as an underground market. Just beyond this window is what remains of Virginia Cities underworld. While it is very strange it also has been abandoned and forgotten for many years. |
 I bought this as the Christmas shop in Virginia City which is opened all year around. Each year we buy an ornament to add to our tree thus celebrating the holidays in 2015 with a hand carved wooden Virginia Truckee Railroad Steam Engine. If you cant tell I really have a deep love for Virginia City. |
 The new pipe I bought at a small shop in Virginia City. The one way I try to give back is I always buy merchandise in Virginia City. This helps keep these shops open which are all historical thus they keep these locations alive. In this case I found a beautiful hand blown glass pipe for my bud. |
 If you ever get a chance to dine in Virgnia City one of my favorite restaurants is the Mustang Ranch Steakhouse. Not only is it historical and has great views but the food is really great. |
 Dining at the Palace Saloon while I wanted to go to the Mustang Ranch the menu caught my eye sorry I love Phillies. Therefore I had sweet asian chicken wings and cheddar Philly. |
 Suicide Ales are back my friends and I love drinking them especially on the holidays after a day of Xmas Shopping and chasing the paranormal. |
