Most of the black prominent citizens of Palatka are buried in this cemetery unfortunately over the years its turned into a dumping ground, place for vagrants, and still till this day remains very overgrown. Across the street is Oak Hill a more well kept historical cemetery. In my report I THOUGHT that was the white part of the cemetery but it turns out they are two separate cemetery associations.

The type of sites you will see in here are beer bottles on graves...stones smashed to bits and pieces and hundreds of upper burials. Its a very dark cemetery a wall surrounds some of it and many of the graves. If you read this and you decide to go here do not go alone its an area full of crime serious.

But it is haunted I know because it was one of the lucky sites I got to see a ghost which happens very occasional even for me as a founder.

At one time the cemetery was in good shape as a Board Of Trustees overseen its operations. Over those years they kept making the mistaking and getting this cemetery confused with the Black Section in Westview in Palatka which referred to it as St Joseph in city directories. After so much time the Trustee board was disbanded and the cemetery had fallen into neglect. Its more like a poor mans cemetery now.

The Keep Putnam Inc and Putnam County 4H club on occasion will go into the cemetery to clean in up but that is even a rare occurrence. Rumors of Home Depot in Palatka might adopt this cemetery as they have been helping with the clean up along with the correction facility up on Putnam County.

Since then two years have passed and nothing has been done so once again the cemetery is falling into a state of peril. I see it all the time its almost impossible to fix up a cemetery once its became desiccated or forgotten. But one thing will not change is the ghost that haunt it.
