A large tract of 142 acres of land sits back on a long dirt road. At the end of that road is Osteen Cemetery named after the Osteen Family which has also had a town named after them.  The cemetery is also the site of the Sauls Home. Below you can read what it says on the memorial so the area was not just a cemetery always but also a home to a family who resided here for many years.

"Central Florida opened to settlers at the end of the 2nd Seminole War. The creation of Mosquito (Later Volusia) County in 1843  signified rising interesting the area. George and Adeline Sauls were among those who came to Volusia county in the 1850s. Sauls built a two-room home near the road from Enterprise to the east coast in an area which became known as Saulsville. He added a second floor and other rooms as his family increased. After the 1880s population centered on the railroad town of Osteen. Sauls family members remained in their home until the early 20th century. The Sauls house stood for over 100 years until fire destroyed it in 1972."

The oldest burials were started around 1881 when M.F and Annie Osteen buried their infant son here. But their are many unmarked graves and at least two confederate soldiers buried here so its possible that it predates even before that date. Since the cemetery sits so far back and is secluded their is many signs of vandalism here. This one area has a bunch of stones pushed over and flower pots broke while another area their are beer bottles near graves. The area however is much older then the cemetery itself as you read above with some of Volusia counties first settlers lived here. Their is over 26 Osteen family members buried here and a couple hundred other permanent guest.

If you do not know who Sauls was he ran a store in 1872 called the Thayer & Sauls Store. Later in 1883 Sauls and another settler named Mr. Quackenboss operated a stage or hack. Today the Sauls are also buried in the cemetery. Adeline died in 1903 then George passed away in 1910.

The cemetery is fairly active with activity of the supernatural kind. Their is moaning here, movement, cold spots, feelings of being watched particularly in the oldest part. We do hope to bring you a second investigation when it is not raining so hard.
