The Orlando Sunland Tuberculosis Hospital was erected I believe in 1943 as a wait to treat those with the disease. Some had called this place Belleview Asylum over the years and even Sunnyland. Sunland would be the few that were built across the state of Florida however eventually when a cure for Tuberculosis had occurred the state took over the Sunland facilities and turned it into a mental asylum for the handicapped children.

Like most asylums across the country this was also a place of neglect, abuse and of course it was obvious that rape would even occurr with some of the girls who were admitted here. It truly is such a sad thing being sent somewhere that is worst then even a prison. What makes it worst is that the evils of man is what really perhaps shut this place down. Near the hospital building another one stood called the juvenile center. This place was a fortress with razor wire, electronic gates, double 12' fences and now today is being used for storage. Back many years ago a woman became pregnant this was not uncommon because it happened at another Sunland as well so it was obvious that the hospital staff abused the patients. Also electro shock therapy was used on some of the disabled something which became very unorthodox as asylums developed much better treatments. In 1985 Sunland was shut down due to its inadequacy of fire escapes. If a fire did occur it would be disastrous trying to get patients so with all this in mind it led to the demise of this 328 acre property.

From 1985 to about 1999 Sunland stood vacant with a fence which surrounded the builing. However it did not keep the thrill seekers out as many kids would go here in hopes of seeing a ghost, damaging the windows, writing graffiti on the walls, doing drugs, partying etc etc.  I have talked to quite a few people who ventured into this hospital before it was torn down unfortunately long before we existed or were based in Florida this hospital was demolished just like most across the country with history.

There is alot of stories which I heard such as ghost tales some of them members have told me about when they were younger and ventured into here. Stories about how strange glowing lights were seen in the windows or how at one time nobody could get up to the third floor because they kept it locked yet you could hear screams, voices and movement. Then there are those stories you read how when it was vacant there were quite alot of suicides in Sunland such as people jumping off the roof and odd things of that sort. I would not doubt it since venturing into these abandoned places has a high level of danger. You have to contend with energies, weak floors, and sometimes other not so nice people hiding in such a place.

Reports go as following that people have seen a ghostly girl who was screaming in terror only eventually to throw herself off the third floor landing. Then there is a story about the ghostly boy walking the halls in search of something room to room. It is obvious over the years that people did die perhaps some were accidents then again maybe some were not.  But those that ventured inside the building said the poltergeist activity was quite high. Then there were some who reported nothing just were over paranoid perhaps because this was a very foreboding property.

Then in 1997 a 23 year old man and his friends ventured into Sunland perhaps not prepared for the dangers of such abandoned buildings he turned and fell down an elevator shaft. He thought it was another doorway perhaps he did not have a bright light or any light at all. When his friends heard the noise they went looking for him found him lying in a puddle of blood not moving and his eyes were wide open. I would presume that they panicked ran out of there and called the cops. The rescuers could not find him and a frantic race against time to find him was on. The mans girlfriend showed them where he fell and they did find him the fortunate news about this is that he was still alive suffered some spinal injuries and a skull fracture.  The Pine Hill residents petitioned the site to be torn down due to this incident and it was demolished in 1999.

Today if you were to visit the Sunland site you would see a grass knoll with a few small rolling hills. Where the hospital once stands now a playground with a Gazebo, benches, swings and other things reside on the grounds. Some say that this playground is real haunted in my opinion I feel that it is but very mildly perhaps because when the building was destroyed it disrupted some of the activity. Also this is one of the sites to one of the largest oak trees in the area. It would take around three people to wrap there arms around it and its branches hang so low that they almost grow on the ground.

The area is quite large there is some residential housing near by, a few buildings which are in use, a correctional facility nearby and even a nursing home on the site. There is a dirt road down on the property which is real eerie and even a few trails back in the woods where there are signs other buildings once stood there due to the lack of grass growing and level land. The area in our opinion is quite peaceful of course some areas you walk near you can feel watched or you will hear slight whispers perhaps with this site now its the little things you have to pay attention to.

You will notice from our first investigation here we have very few if any at all paranormal photos. This will be an ongoing project a place we will work with two to three times. Each time we go will get various evidence but this is more of a place that instead of photographing the supernatural you actually focus more on listening and watching for strange activity. Some believe there are not ghost here at least other paranormal groups but I do think there are many however I do not think they trust easily so this will be our challenge perhaps is working with them enough where they will let us photograph them so it should be interesting and another great journey into our conquest to find existence in the afterlife of another great site which perhaps no longer stands except the spirits that watch over it.
