The Massa Brothers Tunnel is one of many throughout gold country. It was the first mine I was in really in the state of California. That is why it is such a special investigation. For many years it was sealed up by giant boulders weighing over 1000lbs. Then I stayed with some friends for a week visiting this location a couple times and open sesame. Not sure how those thousands of pounds of rock came to be removed during that week but as I say it was wonderful to be able to have a look inside at a tunnel that actually goes under part of the town of Jackson.

The tunnel goes back about 126 feet near the end of it is a split. It looks like the mining stopped but if you inspect it carefully inside there is still alot of white quartz but no gold veins that is why mining ceased here. It was a hard time in my life I thought to myself imagine finding a big gold nugget. I mean during this time of my life I spent it homeless from March of 2008 till June of 2008 so I had all the time in the world to travel by foot into gold country in search of mines and lore.

The tunnel was dug in the 1850s on the Massa Brothers tract.  It extended into the mother lode gold vein and later in the later 1800s Kennedy Mine & Argonaut Mine acquired this tunnel as an addition to their property. Kennedy mine is very haunted and alot of structures surround this area. Some of them I visited at the time I had no camera to take photos so definitely will have to make returns in the future.

In 1942 mining ceased within the tunnel it has no shafts just a tunnel which probably was mined by manual labor. The tunnel today is full of tarantulas. But it also is very haunted you can hear voices inside, movement and other sorts of phenomena. At the time my friend was inside with me he had enough and ran out.
