The Lake Helen Groves are hidden deep in the
swamps and woods of what is part of Lake Helen/Cassadaga today. They call
them the groves perhaps because many years ago citrus was the main crop
grown in the area when it was plantations and early settlements began
farming. The area is a coworkers residence which takes up roughly 26 acres
of land that does not including the swamps and woods which perhaps go for
miles.
Although not alot of strange things have ever happened out here I was told a little bit about the area such as the guy who killed all his cows one day because the were starving. Then their is a tale about one of the largest gators in the swamps nearby perhaps even in the county. Rumor has it its 15 to 18 feet that is a monster compared to most that average 6 feet around here. Then their is another tale just up the dirt road is two other small residences with trailers. Well one of the men living their took a gun and committed suicide very recently I believe in his vehicle. They did not find him till the next day. Then their is the story about a local man who walks drunk barefoot in the woods surrounding the resident is just a crazy guy who likes to shoot of automatic rifles. Last of all their is a story about a little boy who came up missing years ago. Some guys were hanging near her place around the time the boy came up missing. Well in the woods was a decomposing smell and I guess that a psychic was brought in and said the boy was within the Lake Helen groves. A few days later the smell disappeared and the body was found elsewhere. The psychic and my coworker friend said that they think these guys moved the body around as their was police scouting the area in search of the body. So alot of strange tales seem to occur in this general area. At one time before the woods started to be built up with farms, houses etc wild big cats use to be spotted. Although right within the groves are gators, flamingos, owls, and much other wild life. But its pretty secluded and I did not like some of the psychic feelings I had walking around the area alone at night. I mean at one time the land belonged to the Indians and this is true because not to far away is a Medicine Wheel in Cassadaga so we know that much. The area other then that is peaceful but my friend said that leaving the house once the sun goes down is a rare site. Once it is dark out she stays in.
