Waterloo Village

The best preserved ghost town in Northern Jersey we went and I drove past the entrance and Adam told me that this was not Waterloo I said hmm that is strange it says Waterloo Village. Instead he took me down some dirt road on the way their I ran over a huge possum it changed directions I felt bad about it. I hate when animals are in the road and you cannot avoid them.

Adam showed me a road and told me this was the real Waterloo ghost town but I knew it was not many of the houses were abandoned but they all looked way to new and Waterloo dated back to the 1800's. Many houses were next to residences with people in them so their was no way I was going to investigate these houses.

I took us back to the village of Waterloo which turned out to be the right area a town with a black smith, church, cemetery, general store, and mill. I could see all of it off in the distance. We walked up a road past some series of worker cabins not sure I did not have a brochure showing the entire town.

We made our way towards the barn did not visit it cause we thought that was near where the caretaker lived I was not in the mood to be chased by someone's shot gun. Adam told me that the caretaker here shoots people with rock salt hmmm.

We came across our first house it was cozy had a chimney very colonial made out of wood, followed by another wood house, then a series of icy stone steps to a well, and another structure. Somehow the guys would not follow me as I wanted to check out a structure that was lit off in the distance. I hopped down the wall and it turned out this was the black smith shop.

Behind the shop was a beautiful water way, mill, and confederate army wood bridge. I was pretty upset at this point where was my team to see this who knows maybe smoking or yapping away. I took some photos and the light went off on the black smith shop briefly. I believe the flag had blown over it temporarily but I cannot say as their was no wind at the time so I found it to be odd and startling.

I went back up the wall photographed a huge mansion and the guys told me they ran into a cat and they are sure someone lives here cause they seen a light in one of the structures. I wanted to finish the investigation so I took us to the old church and cemetery. I took a few photos got a few other houses on the site then we hiked on out of there. I would have loved to take more photos you do not see to many ghost towns on this level I have a lot of respect to the community for restoring this place I mean it really gives you an idea of what life was like in NJ back in the pioneer days.

After leaving Waterloo I had one more stop an old historical home right near Adam's house. I had its address but it was on a road that had that address appear multiple times so I could not find it. Adam told me he never knew it existed again I asked him to research each place just in case I missed something again I was failed which pisses me off cause this mansion is from the 1600's and is haunted would have looked good on the site.

I gave up and headed back to Adam's place on the way through Newark I seen a hooker get in some guys car it was apparent that Newark and central Florida really had similarities lol. The guys asked me what time I wanted to get up I told them we would get up at 7 am which would only leave us a few hours of sleep but we had a long drive to the pine barrens and so I had no problem if they wanted to nap in the truck.

I was excited about going to the pine barrens it was new territory and a nice little country road trip. A lot of the places I had mapped out were mapped out for the guys cause I chose places based on what they would like. Our first place would take place at a ghost town on the edge of the Pine Barrens. Just to get us warmed up and use to the area a little called Whitesbog an old cranberry ghost town cool huh?
