Last night was one of the most advanced investigation we have ever done perhaps because this was a life and death journey. One wrong move could mean us being torn to pieces by the many large alligators of the St. Johns River.

I am not going to lie when I sat the guys down for this we talked it over for a few weeks I mean it was not a matter of just go investigate this was a survival excursion meaning either we live or we die. Normally our investigations are fairly less complex but Owl Island was so much more then this.

I am sorry that this report is out so late I have been tied up in other projects such as last nights jaunt to Ocala Forest and dealing with being sick it just has not been fun lately.

The island was a special investigation in the fact that we would be visiting one of the most well known Indian mounds in the state of Florida. But to conquer an island was something new to us its not something you practice for its either you have chemistry as a team to do this or you just do not succeed.

The Owl to the Indians was a symbol of death and well to row to the island infiltrate investigate it then make it back safely would be an all night quest of precision, courage, strength and a very strong mind set. We started off the trip by loading our canoe onto my truck ran to the store to get some beer and equipment then our journey began here.

Owl Island

We arrived here at night it was dark their was no moon out making the river pitch black. We would not be able to use any light source cause we would have to canoe for miles and keep the boat steady. Stopping, being foolish like sightseeing etc would be foolish on our part.

We spent time in the woods at first the I took the guys hiking in the Starke Tract once again we did not find the plantation house but its a nice few miles of woods. We all got cut up pretty bad cause you have to go off the trails my hand was cut up, Andrew got a gash in his leg and we ended up on what appeared to be an old wagon trail.

After our warm up hike we launched the canoe from Starke Landing their was someone else with a small fire going on they were fishing. I love Starke Landing its near my house always going up there cat fishing. There is at night a 14 foot gator that likes to come up at the landing so again we had to be careful cause people feed the big ole boy.

We launched the canoe which was only big enough for two we managed to squeeze Jason in it but he had to stay still in the middle to balance it laying his legs flat. The canoe almost tipped at first a few times it was wobbling horribly we had almost 700lbs in a canoe. The back of the canoe was almost underwater from the weight and I was the only one rowing us cause Andrew had to keep it balanced in the back cause when I moved to the left or right he had to move the opposite side.

We took off across the river to Owl island but we could not just board the island simple cause most of the island is slightly submerged under water creating a bog marsh with tree roots growing out of the water and forest so thick you cannot take a boat through it.

I followed the island for almost 3 miles it was painful for me I was feeling it in my upper back, my legs fell asleep could not feel them and I could not move them because if I did the canoe would tip over and we all could be killed.

The water was dark and murky all we could see is this three to four hundred foot wide channel with heavy tree cover on both sides. We were moving down stream and I tried to stay near the shore in case we tipped we could stand up but unfortunately getting close to shore almost damned us cause they were alligator feeding grounds full of plants growing in the water, Lillie pads and even downed trees.

One down tree we were about to collide with and just in time I veered us away only scrapping the tree however if we were to hit it head on we would have been doomed. I worked so hard to keep us going I knew that if we tipped over we could lose all our equipment maybe drown or be eaten by a gator.

The thing was that if we tipped we would have to swim to the other shoreline which was hundreds of feet away being their are hundreds of gator's in this area if we swam by one, bumped one etc they would react. When an alligator bites down its nearly impossible to have them release you they physically bite down then they spin around and around till its prey is dead from it drowning so yeah 1000 lb gator spinning you in the water was not something to joke about.

But Andrew and I joked about it for awhile just to keep our spirits up and I sang Don't Rock The Boat Baby cause Jason took his hands off both sides and yeah we almost tipped. I kept my backpack on while rowing that way if we tipped I would not lose my gear everything was put into plastic bags as well.

The thing about canoeing is that its a skill most people tip it over trying to get in one others do not use their arms to row they use there body tipping it over as well. Its something you have to practice with another person so you can get down a system however none of us ever canoed together and Andrew had not gone in a couple years since he tipped over a long time ago and their was a gator in the water with him so for him this was pretty intense getting in a canoe to do this.

On the river was a few dim lights at various channels a green one we seen disappeared then we went past a red one almost hitting the pole in the water. It was a long journey and I believe on two occasions I did hit a gator with an Ore cause something hit my ore hard and thrashed  only got a glimpse of it. Andrew told me that he took a boat here during the day when the sun is out and said their were dozens of gator's just feeding so we knew we were floating slowly over many hungry creatures.

It was a team effort and we all had to depend on one another to survive. I came around a bend and there were river houses with docks. Slowly rowing I found the dry part of the island which sits higher up and is easy to dock. We docked the canoe almost tipped it getting out and I never was so happy to be on land. We all had a beer and just grasped the reality that what we did was beyond what the average person would ever do.

The island has a ferry that goes over and a boat dock for private boaters. People camp on here, visit during the day for picnics, hike etc its a large island but only half of it is accessible. We wasted no time it was starting to rain another down fall to our investigation.

I was starting to get sick with the flu my throat was sore, nose was stuffing up, I had a rash from rowing and my legs were cramped from the journey. If I were to possibly have tipped over in the canoe I might have drowned cause my legs were asleep for almost two hours and numb.

We reached a trail on the island one area split off probably to a camping area the other followed the Snake Creek which is just another small river that runs parallel with the island. We took the old Indian trail it was poorly maintained at times trees were down and we lost the trail then other times there were open areas making it hard to find the exact trail.

We stopped at a bench took a smoke break drank the beer took a few photos then moved on. We passed strangely in the dark a group of about 4 young brunets I found it strange to see someone hiking on this island with no lights especially a group of girls. I was hoping they would have invited us back to their yacht grrrr that sounded a lot better then rowing back to the car and possibly being eaten by an 18 foot gator.

We hiked on the trail and eventually reached the Indian mound. I could not help noticing how for awhile it seemed we were being followed with branches breaking. We ran into a couple armadillos along the trail but the branches breaking were something else on the island. Of course their are deer and other forms of wildlife so who knows but from my experience I do think their was a native American spirit following us along the trail.

The mound was gigantic we started to go up hill and made our way to the top below was steep inclines going down about 30 feet. This mound was full of small snail shells you could see them mixed in with the dirt. Jason grabbed a handful of them probably took them home hence why Owl Island just got devastated with 175 mile an hour winds and all the river houses got destroyed bad Jason real bad lol. PGS knows how to stir up the spirits just a lil bit lol.

Anyhow we made a peace offering to the Native American people who once had a village near this mound then we went off the trail where it dead ended and Andrew showed me that anywhere past the trail is under water. He showed me a bog that looked like something from a movie we had to climb back up the Indian mound. Their was an ancient tree growing atop of the mound it had vines growing on it Andrew tried climbing. I climbed it to but ended up sliding and falling backwards landing on the ground. I was lucking if I would have falling backwards I would have been stabbed by about 5 spikes sitting out of a palm tree so that night I lost two lives one on the river and almost one in the woods.

We started our hike back the area and island are historic and I heard a scream in the woods it did not sound animal or human. It sounded like a werewolf or something but it was right across the creek nearby and loud. I also thought I heard voices in the woods almost as if the trees were talking to me. The whole island is weird and pretty spooky at night to be on.

We did get back to the island docks and Jason used the bathroom then we took photos of the Owl and Otter replica totem poles. They found a few totem poles on this island and other artifacts its a pretty cool place. I admire its history and respect this place cause we earned our journey.

At this time the rain and winds were kicking up we had to get out of here if the canoe were to fill with water we could be doomed cause their was nowhere for us to just land it and wait out the storm. Both sides of the river are bogs, swamps and heavy tree growth with gators roaming amongst them. So that would be it we would more then likely not make it or we would be sitting up in a tree growing out of the rivers water bank.

I started rowing out of their the current was very strong, wind was blowing, rain was coming down hard. I went upstream and we made a decision to abandon ship and hike back home which was miles upon miles away. I docked up the canoe near some homes its missing I know cause I came back the next day but that's alright canoes are real cheap at the Army store near me either way it happens but still I did not like the idea of having to leave what we own behind but that is the choice you make life or death. Our canoe had the PGS logo on it I sure will miss her sighs but its okay it was a life and death situation.

We cut through some brush made our way out to the road starting walking nobody was out but some redneck in his truck driving slowly past us. We were not doing nothing wrong and this person called the cops on us. Little did we know I was so sick at this point that I did not even try to run when they shined their spotlight on us. We were just walking down a public road explained our story and yet they kept hassling us despite I told them we were working with ghost. We were not in the mood since we were  hiking, rowing, and were walking down this road for a long ways then had to stand in the rain to deal with this crap in the middle of a storm.

Then more showed up all because some local could not mind their own business. The sheriffs were rude to us and tried to say we looked funny and Andrew blew up on them we pretty much fought them on this. Then they took our information, Polaroid photos, and told us they were going to file us in case something happened in the area it would come back to us. It was so silly asking us meaningless questions trying to test us which technically was illegal on their part cause we are not obligated to tell them our mothers maiden names or why we are dressed a certain way.

But that is what its all about now they have 20 year old sheriffs acting big with their tasers the one guy had to be under 5 feet tall bullying us around. To endure what we did they have made us heroes not criminals so I want to take the time to thank those wonderful Volusia county sheriffs:) no honor whatsoever I think I am more of a sheriff then they will ever bee lol. But what do you expect their just rednecks with a gun that's all it really is! Am I upset you bet cause when is it illegal to back pack across the state when is it illegal to be out in the night when is it illegal to be on a public road not doing nothing. The one officer told me to remove my ski mask oh man I started laughing cause I was not even wearing one although Andrew made me laugh and said to me that I look like a Russian soldier with what I was wearing haha. My hat said F%$# Me I Am Fat and their was not a thing they could do about it!!!

I never felt so violated in my life like I said if I was feeling better I would have probably just cut into the woods and that would have been it but I figured instead I would use them to my advantage. We let them profile us and they gave us a ride back into town in the back of their cars hahahaha. They did not search us cause we did not give them cause of course concealed weapons, open container of beer, etc would not have gone over well but its our right and we made sure I mean you got to be righteous this day and age cause honestly if you do not you will learn real quick you have no rights as a citizen of this country.

But then they waited for us to call for a ride then took on off after awhile and sent the local police department which two cars sat at another gas station nearby just watching us till our ride came. Like I said people in Florida including law enforcement are never up to any good they have nothing better to do and their is no honor. It was obvious we were just a group of guys with gear and backpacking yet they almost made a big mistake which would have been their downfall when they slipped up going on about our looks we know our rights.

We made it home safely I was wet and sick I hit the bed and that was it. Andrew was very influenced by this investigation for days after sometimes these things we do can make you view life differently. This was not a matter of adventure it was a matter of survival one wrong move meant death in a deep 20 foot river with many gator's you are just asking for trouble.

But just as I thought the island turned out to be quite active in paranormal activity and Andrew's mother saved the day. Getting  home to my pumpkin pie was like heaven lol. It was such a big investigation it took all evening and all night. I think this investigation should show the resilience of the PGS organization and what we are all about.

Its rough when you have little support from your members, hate groups put you down etc etc they have no idea the hard work that goes into the planning for something like this. Putting your own life at risk deserves respect we do not get anything out of this but glory and having the chance to share our experiences with the public.

If you have not read the headlines the houses near Owl Island have been destroyed including the man who called the cops on us. The sheriff station responsible for harassing us has been destroyed by the tornado a cop car was thrown into a building and another sheriff was picked up in his car thrown. The spirits are very angry for how we were treated. The island is mystical a place of power and I almost felt like when we were mistreated it angered them cause we risked our lives to visit with these Indian spirits they knew it and so did we. I was very sincere about this with the sheriffs yet they would not let us continue our hike down a public road they gave us a lecture how its night time blah blah blah well in the end we are The Paranormal & Ghost Society and to be able to journey in the night is our right its our freedom to do so without others hindering us.

All in all like Andrew said we must have had a four leaf clover on us or a lucky horseshoe cause the entire night we faced adversity and every thing we did step by step worked out in our favor including getting a ride to town which is miles away. So they did us a favor they think they did not but we used the situation to our advantage since it was pouring rain.

I am glad we got the island done cause on the news they said that the highest winds from the storm and tornadoes hit the island and they used the word destroyed so we managed to investigate it just in time. We are legends and part of that island will be forever in our hearts as we took one of the most perilous adventures in the organizations history!
