New Jersey a state of mystery, lore, ghost towns and the well famed pine
barrens was one of our organizations biggest adventures. It was always one
of my dreams and in Feb. 2007 it would come true. I have always felt over
the years that visiting here would have its rewards not just for the
paranormal but accomplishment as well. The feeling of finding a ghost town
out in the middle of nowhere, off roading down a narrow road, climbing a
mountain to some ruins really is one of the best accomplishments anybody
in this field could ever obtain. This will be the last series of reports I
will share publicly only cause the trip was planned and advertised long
before our archives became a paid feature.
Our main focus of the investigation was of course the Jersey Devil since
many of the sightings that took place had occurred at some of these ghost
towns and locations we visited. So when I put the investigation together
mapped it out I chose places where some sightings had occurred which in
turn would up our chances of gathering some sort of odd evidence.
By the end of the trip we turned out 25 investigations and places most
requiring heavy hiking and advanced driving in some of the harshest
conditions I ever seen. So many said to me you guys are going to die, your
not going to make it, your not going to find these places etc but we found
25 out of the 30 that I mapped out so that in itself deserves recognition.
The places we visited in order were the following....Kips
Castle,Overbrook Asylum,Lambert Tower,Pyramid Mountain & New Jersey's
Stonehenge,Hibernia St. Patrick's Cemetery,Hibernia Munitions
Ruins,Waterloo Village,Whitesbog,Atsion,Pine Barrens,Harrisville Papermill
Ruins,Estellville Glassworks,Weymouth Furnace,The Blue Hole,Pleasant Mills
Cemetery,Batso,Friendship,Hampton Furnace & The Cranberry Ruins,Apple
Pie Hill,Smithville,Double Trouble,Jumpers Bridge & Munitions Factory
Ruins,Clinton Road,Liberty Island, and The World Trade Center Site.
Some of these places we visited were gorgeous or should I say worlds of
their own. I have to say my trip to the Pine Barrens was an original its a
place you never forget. The forest had a very European mystical feeling to
it. But as beautiful as it looks its also a place that has become the
final resting place for some. Many of the places we visited were near or
within the Pine Barrens some of what you will see from our investigations
will lack paranormal evidence but do have folklore, tales, and even Jersey
Devil Sightings over the years.
The trip required a few months of planning I had to go out purchase all
new equipment such as cameras, two way radios, special flashlights with
longer lasting lumens, nylon clothing to shield out moisture, emergency
radio, etc between the airline tickets, a solid 4x4 Chevy Tahoe Truck
Rental, gas, equipment etc this trip went well over 1000 dollars. When I
put the investigation together I put it together so that we would do a
figure 8 across the state of Jersey which would enable us to cover every
part of the Wharton National Forest within the Pine Barrens and some other
areas. The trip was designed to cover some of the best and biggest ghost
towns.
Going out of state meeting other members is something that I have grown
accustomed to doing it allows me to meet others and get others on our
team. Their is benefits to being a team member for one a lifetime
membership on our site unless of course you lie or break protocol then its
pretty much over.
Jersey for me would be very difficult for one we would be facing ice, wind
chill, low temperatures, snow and for two I was very sick. Little did I
know that on the side of my lower chin I had an infectious lump which was
causing me chills, fevers, coughing, headaches etc the coldness in Jersey
caused it to hurt worst but the growth of it was rather stunted. Of course
after surviving my trip up north and taking natural remedies with it still
not fixing the problem a doctor told me that I was not actually sick but
rather developed an infection caused by a scratch. A few days before I
left for Jersey I had scratched my neck and chin on some thorny
brush it had bacteria on it which was absorbed into my blood stream thus
causing a very painful infection in that area. This would make my trip all
the more rough cause for one I did not have antibiotics and for two it
would reduce my energy in half. Considering I would climb mountains, do
all of the driving that week, and hike miles in the pine barrens
competition was about to set in between myself and mother nature.
The trip was put together a certain way with a variety of ghost towns,
woods, cemeteries, and even asylums. Out of the 30 places I had 5 were
lost due to us running out of sun light or the fact that my investigators
did not do their part on mapping out these places as I asked.
Unfortunately when you are the founder your investigators want credit for
work they have not done so a lot of time was wasting just searching for
places that did exist that just could not be found that was one of my main
complaints.
I wanted to start off the investigation and day 1 with some simple
expeditions such as a few trails, historical locations, and finally
finishing off the night with some really eerie places. I wanted to get use
to the area and harsh cool weather as well as our new investigator Adam.
Andrew and I boarded the plane to head off to NJ I could see the Statue Of
Liberty from my plane. The turbulence picked up when we arrived up north
you could see more snow in southern NJ then Northern NJ. But it was doable
in my opinion especially after what I had to go through when I lived up in
NY I figured I could handle a little snow out in the woods.
We got off our plane baggage came super late their were goths with colored
hair I did not feel so bad cause my hair was pink. No it was not meant to
be pink it was supposed to be red but I mixed my hair wrong and that was
my end result. But what the hell its just a color right? I seen a guy with
purple hair so I was like right on dude. I also seen some kids skate
boarding inside the terminal so I knew I was up north it felt good like
being back home.
We had to take a train to the car rental shuttle station then take a
shuttle to the car rental place. I ended up with a Chevy Tahoe brand
new...with 4 wheel drive, off roading capability, electronic seats, built
in compass and temperature gauge etc etc I was thrilled with this truck.
Andrew was tweaking for some cigarettes and drove the truck told me to sit
in the passenger seat and in a way he got us lost so now our day was
becoming delayed. It seems lately my investigators care more about
themselves then the actual investigation part. He found some at a gas
station but we were a good ways from Adam's place.
When we arrived at Adam's house he had two friends over I felt as if he
was not ready to go. That is just my opinion and observation. As the
founder I have made it a privilege to allow our members to join up on our
investigations and sometimes people are not always as honest as they seem
for whatever reasons they might have. But some people do not see it as an
honor to have PGS roll into town they think that this is a game or a way
for them to get out and its not. My only goal was to work with the Jersey
Devil if I got ghost fine if I seen UFOs fine....but the trip was designed
around high Devil sighting locations.
But I unpacked some of the gear and stacked everything in the back
of the truck. It was very cloudy chilly and I knew we had a long day ahead
of us and so our week long journey begins here.
Day 1
Kip's
Castle
We started heading to Kip's Castle Adam was arguing on the cell phone with
his GF and making all kinds of calls so much for getting acquainted. I did
not map out this place cause he told me he knew how to get there well it
turns out he did not. I drove through the city its located in and to the
highest point where we slightly seen a stone wall that was our
destination.
We found out that they were turning this place into a law firm which meant
we could not get inside if I came to Jersey a few months ago the place was
abandoned and well at this point I would just have to get photos for our
members from the outside.
We walked around the front I took a lot of photos and then to the side
where I found an entry way into the castle through a stone passage leading
down a tunnel. I did not enter it a cop was on site along with a
construction crew. But I took a photo of course inside the small tunnel. I
felt a presence in here staring back at me it was strong just like a huge
burst of energy in my face.
We walked across an open area and to the edge of the mountain where we
seen a wall and a structure below with a small tunnel. It was apparent
that the entire mountain the castle sat on had many stone walls and
smaller structures on the property itself. The castle seemed dreary it
would not take a psychic here to feel the ghost present on the property.
We did walk through another tunnel connected to the castle and their was a
light on by the main entrance to the mansion. I could hear drills going
off inside so it was obvious they were restoring the place. I think the
thing about Kip's castle is perhaps is the mystery surrounding it. I can
imagine this place at night has to be eerie its such a large place. A
light was on a 3rd floor window and the darker windows at the top floors
were dark and you almost felt as if we were being watched.
I do think this was a wonderful first investigation for the team in Jersey
it was easy going just a simple picture walk. Its a place with a lot of
dark history to it ghost or no ghost it would allow us all to loosen up
get use to the cold weather and get a system going on. Our next location
would be the Overbrook Asylum.
