Fort King Burial Grounds

We drove through the historical section of Ocala and it really amazed me to see such large Victorian mansions in such a secluded town in the woods. But we took our time enjoying the mansions, old historical inns, large houses with porches and some as tall as three floors high eventually taking us to an area where Fort King use to stand but today what is left is the dearly departed and its monuments which state the history.

We pulled off into the back expecting to see some graveyard with war stones we came real quickly to the realization that this place was a mass burial ground and that nobody had a tombstone it was more like a potters field type of place. Where men who died in battle were just thrown into a pit and forgotten.

We parked in a dark little area and the trees here many of them were very old probably there during the Seminole Wars even. A few stumps were around probably from the hurricanes as there were signs of giant tracks from heavy machinery.

Lee and I walked up to the monument read the history then went our own ways. I went off to the back in the darker section and something was in the woods watching me you could just feel it. I could hear it and there was alot of cold patchy spots back here. I shined my light many times in the woods looking because I knew something was there and had a feeling perhaps that in those woods probably was more burials that took place then the grounds we were walking on.

I went back up to the front of the monument and Lee was out back in the darker area of the burial ground when I snapped a few photos. Lee came up to me excited telling me that my flash reached all the way back near him and somehow it illuminated the silhouette of a figure standing near him.  Its amazing how when a flash goes off on camera how you are able to catch glimpses of things. But he got a nice view of a ghost standing pretty close to him.

We did not spend alot of time here but there was feelings of excitement as if the ghost here were very lonely and wanted our company. It was very obvious that nobody ever visits this historical site. But there were some strong feelings here including near one of the oldest trees on site.

We left headed up the road to read a plaque about the fort which stood fairly close to this burial ground. There was a clear and some woods it was obvious that just beyond that clearing at one time had some structures or the fort itself in this area. So alot of history just to this area we were investigating. Then we visited our next location which was Ocala Downtown Square.
