The International Potato Center, a team of researchers dedicated to improving the lives of the poor, announced on Monday that the high-energy vegetable can be grown on Mars.

The experiment, which began in mid February of this year and in collaboration with NASA, simulated a high CO2 level, low air pressure and Martian solar radiation to come up with the conclusion.

The test was filmed and posted online, showing the growth of the plant under the controlled environment. The CIP claims it took about half a month for the two plants to grow.

Growing food on Mars is of vital importance due to the intentions of NASA regarding a manned expedition to the Red Planet.
