Nevada, EPA reach deal on Yerington’s Anaconda mine clean-up





















The state of Nevada and the federal Environmental Protection Agency have reached agreement on a plan to clean up the old Anaconda Mine site near Yerington.The plan will require a commitment of about $31 million from the federal government to clean up the four Arimetco evaporation ponds that make up 260 acres of the 3,400-acre mine site. The state must pay a 10 percent match on the $31 million. Leo Drozdoff, director of the Department of Conservation and Natural Resources, said the money for that part of the reclamation project was a key to the governor agreeing to list Anaconda  …
