'Eddington' goes back to 2020, but its vision is blurry

Eddington plunges us back into that familiarly distressing time of the early days of the pandemic. Directed by Ari Aster (Hereditary and Midsommar) Joaquin Phoenix and Pedro Pascal star as political rivals in a small southwest town. Their conflict collides with the news of George Floyd's murder, which brings tensions to a full-on boil for the whole community.

Video Game World / First Mortal Kombat 2 trailer features game-accurate Fatalities and brings in The Boys star Karl Urban as new anti-hero Johnny Cage

First Mortal Kombat 2 trailer features game-accurate Fatalities and brings in The Boys star Karl Urban as new anti-hero Johnny Cage

Get over here and watch the first Mortal Kombat 2 trailer

People of Earthrealm, get ready for more Kombat. The first trailer for Mortal Kombat 2 is here and, as you might expect, the upcoming video game movie isn't pulling its punches but is providing buckets of the red stuff.

Focusing on Karl Urban's Johnny Cage being dragged into the next edition of the Mortal Kombat tournament, the Mortal Kombat 2 trailer sees the former box office headliner coming (perilously) face to face with Kitana's deadly fan weapon. Of course, there's more than your fair share of Fatalities and brutal deaths too, plus a taste of Shao Kahn's menacing presence.

As you can tell from the trailer, the big Mortal Kombat 2 newcomer is washed-up and obnoxious movie star Johnny Cage, played by Karl Urban. Elsewhere, the fresh Kombatants include Jade (Tati Gabrielle), Kitana (Adeline Rudolph), series villain Shao Kahn (Martyn Ford), Sindel (Ana Thu Nguyen), and Damon Herriman (Quan Chi). If that roster isn't stacked enough, there's also a chance that characters killed in the 2021 original could return. Dead rarely means dead in the Mortal Kombat universe, after all.

There's every reason to get excited for the Mortal Kombat sequel, too, as writer Jeremy Slater teases it's been getting Avengers: Endgame-style reactions with test audiences.

"I have been to those test screenings, which are full of Mortal Kombat fans, and watching them react to it the way I reacted to Avengers: Endgame. They were cheering and jumping out of their seats. Every joke is landing and they are loving it," Slater told ComicBook. "It's one of the greatest moments of my life. That's why you get into this business."

Mortal Kombat 2 is hitting cinemas on October 24, 2025. For more, check out the rest of this year's unmissable movie release dates.

Video Game World / Witchbrook dev Chucklefish reignites excitement for the cozy life sim with a series of first looks that are giving serious Stardew Valley vibes: "EVERY citizen has their own look, name, and home"

Witchbrook dev Chucklefish reignites excitement for the cozy life sim with a series of first looks that are giving serious Stardew Valley vibes: "EVERY citizen has their own look, name, and home"

Mossport is like a witchy Pelican Town

It's been a while since we've heard anything new about Witchbrook, but a recent update from developer and publisher Chucklefish shows more of the stunning pixel game off.

After finally confirming a release window for Witchbrook at the tail end of March this year, Chucklefish has surfaced again with some more news for excited fans – a dev blog containing a first look at the witchy life sim's day and night cycle, growing flowers, NPC schedules, vehicles, and more. The sneak peek videos come as a nice surprise, apparently marking the start of a series of similar dev blogs from Chucklefish.

"With each blog we'll be diving into a different part of the game," explains the developer in its post, "starting with the ever-bubbling cauldron beneath the surface, quietly weaving its energy through every corner of Witchbrook: World Simulation." That's where this first dev blog comes in, as it showcases some of the elements that ensure "the town of Mossport is a living, breathing, believable place" for players.

Chucklefish then delves into some of the details developers have poured into the world so far, starting with its changing seasons, day-night transitions, and villagers' daily routines. "The world is persistent," explains the studio, "which means EVERY citizen has their own look, name, and home. They’re not just background characters, they're part of the world's fabric." It's all giving some serious Stardew Valley vibes, and I can't wait to learn more.

As Chucklefish writes, the next dev blog "dives into Witchbrook College and some of the fun activities you'll be participating in" – and while the studio doesn't provide a solid date for the second dev blog's release, it likely won't be too long. After all, Witchbrook itself is meant to launch later this year, and it's already July. If you're anything like me and can't wait to see more of the cozy sim, make sure to wishlist it on Steam for updates.

Looking for more to play? Check out some of these upcoming indie games for other gems to be excited for.

Video Game World / Cyberpunk 2077 patch 2.3's new driving modes are inspired by chill YouTube videos of people cruising through Night City, and the GTA 5 fan in me is thrilled

Cyberpunk 2077 patch 2.3's new driving modes are inspired by chill YouTube videos of people cruising through Night City, and the GTA 5 fan in me is thrilled

Perfect for city boys like me who need ambient street sounds to fall asleep when they're out in the eerily quiet countryside

Yesterday, CD Projekt Red revealed another Cyberpunk 2077 update, and this one adds new cars and quests to get them, Delamain taxi rides, and fully self-driving cars. I'm glad this is finally in the game, because I never understood why my car could drive itself to me when I call for it but then didn't drive me to my destination.

In patch 2.3, all cars in the game feature an autodrive function. If you've set a waypoint, they'll head there while you chill and listen to the radio or take in the sights of Night City. There's also the option to simply let it roam freely, driving you around nonstop. Perfect for those times when you need to clear your head or want to turn the game into a screensaver.

That latter mode even comes with a new cinematic camera to make it all look even more picturesque. "That was actually inspired by a lot of videos that you guys made of Cyberpunk 2077 on YouTube," Paweł Sasko, Cyberpunk 2 associate game director, says. "Videos like '4 hours driving in a city,' you know, and things like this."

If you go on YouTube right now you'll find scores of videos like this. Now they'll be even easier to make. They often feature someone driving along at night, in the rain, with lo-fi music or the ambient sounds of the city. Perfect for a city boy like me who gets creeped out by the quiet of the countryside when I'm away from my home in London. It might seem odd to find comfort in Cyberpunk 2077, but familiarity comes in strange places.

These kinds of videos are also super popular with GTA 5 fans. They're fantastic because you can go from the rolling Vinewood hills all the way to the desert of Sandy Shores.

If you're not keen on going for a drive, check out some of the best RPGs you can play instead.
