150 Years AgoFire. The frame building on the corner of Third and Ormsby streets known as the Head Quarters Saloon was in flames. If it hadn’t been for the quick appearance of the fire engines, a vast amount of property would have been destroyed. The two-story frame building in rear of the St. Charles Hotel used as a kitchen and a lodging place above was in a sheet of flames. The great quantity of water poured upon it by the engines kept it from being consumed. Never were two engines worked to better advantage than the Warren and Curry Engines.  …
