Last night was a real special investigation as we put together an
adventure in the Mount Dora region which is the highest point in the state
of Florida. But not only that we investigated a variety of places with a
lot of history.
I was a very busy day for me yesterday as I took my son to my community
Halloween Party where I live. Not to sound off topic here but since when
do they play rap and Spanish music at a Halloween Party? Lets just say my
sons and I were disappointed so we did not stay long besides the fact
their was about 100 kids crammed in a small room things got pretty crazy
lol. With that final though I actually cannot wait to host my
Halloween Party next week cause I know it will be much better.
Last night we visited quite a few places such as The Donnelly House &
Park, Palm Island Park & Grantham Point, The Mount Dora & Lake
Eustis Railway, The Icehouse Theatre, and to finish off the night Pine
Forest Cemetery.
We had to get an early start as we had a big night so after a nice pasta
dinner, packing up our cooler, and getting our gear together we headed on
out to Mount Dora which is a really cozy country town. Its very hilly,
historical, and perhaps has a sense of gloominess upon nightfall. Great
for the month of October.
On our way down to Mount Dora I stopped to get some gas and their was a
drunk guy trying to talk to me, stumbling around, starting trouble with
Jason in the gas station etc. The guy drove a company pick up truck and I
could not believe that someone that drunk could get in a vehicle to drive. So
with quick thinking I called the police department on my cell and in only
took them 30 seconds to arrive.
The guy was so drunk he hit his head on the steering wheel then
pulled out put his right signal on but went left so the cop did a u-turn.
Well they ended up getting him a mile down the road and it appeared he was
being arrested. Drinking and Driving does not pay if we see it we will get
you. I am glad this person was apprehended simply because last night he
could have killed someone as the road is very narrow and has cars that
flow in two directions. So imagine if someone was coming the other way. So
yes we probably saved some lives last night. Hopefully we can prevent
something from happening like when Rob was killed by a drunk driver.
Any way's finally after the ordeal we arrived in Mount Dora and so our
adventure begins here.
The
Donnelly House & Park
We arrived downtown and right away I felt very comfortable. The walkways
were made of brick, their were many large mansions some Victorian with
wrought iron, fancy lights lined the side walks, the streets were hilly,
many of the shops were close together very old. Everything looked like a
century ago and it was real peaceful.
We went up a hill and seen the giant city hall which is this Greek
architectural type of building. I went by slowly cause I seen a bunch of
cute brides maids and a lady in a wedding dress. Damn I am to late she was
a really pretty blonde girl. I told Jason damn this investigation keeps
getting better and better or rather this town is looking pretty good.
We parked right over in front of the park and at first I was getting side
tracked cause I see a lot of old houses and buildings. Chances are most
have a ghost or two in them. In the park is a recreational building and
their was a reception going on. The bridge was walking to the building
from city hall. We were watching girls for awhile dancing, people were
walking all over the park hanging out, the music was loud, and of course
women were screaming. Yeah it was pretty intense and I was not even
invited lol. But anyway's point being with all the people around, loud
music, tiki lamps etc etc it really would lesson the amount of
paranormal activity even if I wanted to get EVP I could not but this is
the chances you take.
Rather then us doing the park first we sort of strayed to do the house
first. We had a lot of people watching us trying to figure out who we are.
Maybe they thought were wedding photographers lol. But we walked on over
to the very large Queen Anne Style home. Rather then say home this thing
is mansion like with 3 floors and even a basement.
It was apparent that the house now was a current Masonic temple. Their was
a plaque out front and then a brand new sign with the mason symbols on it.
I was sort of in a state of awe when I see the house cause its real
unique. Many of the windows were stained glass, their were many doors
around it on the upper floors with little balconies, their was weather
vanes on the roof and wrought iron framing as well, the porch went around
it, their was a stone stairwell going under ground, and many symbols were
engraved or etched onto some of the glass windows. The place just was
amazing but it had a gloomy feeling.
We walked around the house found a small door under the house which was
very warm underneath as I got a blast of hot air. As I was walking around
the house I felt a presence a very strong one actually keeping watch on us
at all the times. I believe that it was on the second floor more towards
the drive way side of the house.
I did look in some of the windows and it was pretty nice inside their was
a marble fire place, antique furniture, chandeliers etc just a real cozy
but classy look to it. I did not feel to comfortable with looking in the
windows cause I felt like the ghost wanted to be left alone.
We found a metal stairwell that went up onto the second story roof so I
went on up checked it out and came down. I noticed we were experiencing
major cold spot activity on the opposite side of the house near the
emergency fire escape stairs. It was very contained but it seemed to move
around whatever was here.
We found some stone hearts on the ground that said different things they
probably went to a garden. But other then that everything here was very
peaceful surrounding the house. The back was sort of gloomy and dark but
if anything the ghost we really want is the one that is inside looking at
us. We then crossed the street to visit Donnelly Park.
Their was a fountain within the park and the reception at this point was
coming to an end. People were starting to leave, packing up tables, chairs
etc Their was a lot of people just sitting on various benches of the park
and of course some of the employees were out just lounging around. We took
some photos near the fountain and it we even found a time capsule which
was to be opened in 2076 by that time I will be over a hundred years old
lol.
A cop kept following us around so we sat for awhile I guess since I was
not wearing a tux he had his suspicions or something here. Many of the
benches had plaques on them also we found a couple war memorials within
the park. But for the most part it was peaceful. Their was a lit tennis
court with dodge balls the one employee seen me pick up one then he said
to me that he was going to put air in them. Man dodge ball sounded like
fun last night I really need some sports pals here lol.
We walked around the park a total of 3 times but I really was not
comfortable with people staring at me. The one group of guys seemed pretty
cool hanging out near the tennis courts but some other old coot gave me
the evil eye like this is my daughters wedding and we do not want you here
lol. Then some lady walking in circles that looked like a wicked witch was
eyeballing Jason. Actually this woman scared me I think she was mentally
ill cause she was like talking to herself and everything. I told Jason to
go get her but he just ran lol.
The park was difficult to gather paranormal data from you see its a focal
point because it sits dead center of Mount Dora so their is some energy
here. But I did take some photos then smiled at all the pretty gals. This
was one of these investigations that just was crazy plain and simple. But
we pulled it off that is all that counts then we left and head on off to
Palm Island Park and Grantham Point Which sits in Simpson Cove.
