St Mary's every town almost has one whether it is a church or a cemetery. What makes the St Mary's Eerie here in the town of Lancaster is that for one its on a hill, two the tracks run along it, three the European looking church that's always dark and never seems to be open and four the many tombstones that are tipped over, vandalized, or moved around. Many stories go back about St Mary's like at one time they had a tunnel system that the children would use to go to the church underground that way they did not have to cross the street. The tunnel does exist today however it was redirected and made into a drainage system but some of the old European architecture still remains for the first 50 feet into the tunnel. At one time people could see caskets sticking out from the tunnel walls since it does go under the cemetery. Anyhow a little info on this place in it was established in 1850 it! was the largest Catholic Diocese community before the ones were developed in the city of Buffalo. Even though the church was not constructed until 1864 its believed early European settlers buried the the perished here. The other building on site served as a place for meetings and assumption back in the 1850s. The first parish high school in the united states was built thus named now St Mary's high which was constructed in 1904. The St Mary's Elementary school built in 1874 became full so across the street from the cemetery and church in 1958 a new elementary school was built. The long history of this church is amazing in that over 50 women have joined its commune and 50 priest have came to be from here.
Between its old history and its eerie look much more remains to be seen.
Many investigations have been done here from myself as well with our
organization and yes its very haunted on certain nights. There is
everything from a black looking demon to a singing ghost that rolls down into the
cemetery off the tracks down its slope. Keep in mind the first 2
investigations here were when our organization opened so the photos are
weak because I was tested cameras and training previous investigators. But
needless to say its a very interesting yet mysterious cemetery.
