Space View Park sits across the Indian River and Kennedy Space Center. This place has always intrigued me when I moved here and read about it. Sure its just a park but not your typical everyday park either. The park was designed for NASA fans to enjoy space shuttle launches at a safe distance. Some say its the best place to view a Space Shuttle Launch since its directly across from Kennedy Space Center.

During a launch hundreds gather to take photos and enjoy the fiery launch pads. Imagine how much energy is present here all the peoples breath being taken away. When I seen my first shuttle launch it truly was amazing so to be in a park nearby has to be thrilling to experience. This energy is likely present here and that is why I chose to investigate the park even without getting any photos its very easy to feel when walking around.

There are a few memorials here one of the is the Project Mercury Memorial dedicated in 1995 which has plaques and handprints of all six of the second original astronauts. Gus Grissom's handprints are missing cause he died before they were able to take them.

Space fascinates me I mean honestly even as a child I use to look up at the moon just wondering if life was out there. Over the years you read all these UFO cases, sightings, abductions then you just wish when you walk in this park to be able to see one of our own space ships pull away from the earth.

I remember in 1985 when the challenger blew up after take off. I was home that day from school was only 10 years old at the time always sick with major ear aches. It was an amazing but tragic event. But I am sure those that watched in horror from this little park seen history here.

The one thing I may never get to see but hope too is the mission to Mars. When you look at the universe its an amazing place. There are billions of stars, millions of galaxies, solar systems with suns like our own. There are at least 250 earth like planets out there and maybe life on those planets is just trying to do what we are doing which is exploring the unknown.

This park allows others to watch launches of these heroes who explore the unknown. Of course if you ask me I think they should send me to Mars what do you think? Paranormal investigators on a another planet may just be what NASA needs to find what they are looking for.  Since I like to walk on the edge I will be more then happy to do the things astronauts normally do not do but we will not get into that lol.

Okay okay not that this was said one can learn about how the Chinese started rockets 300 BC. One can enjoy a river walk, reading various memorials, plaques, and enjoy a wood pier out over the Indian river.  When a launch occurs here and listen to the launch process over speakers. One can read the history as well on Titusville which is a really pleasant historical town one we were stranded in back June of 2005.

The park is real serene however lots of energy and history to the area. In 1965 is when the launch complex was built and Titusville forever was changed as the space capital of the world.

Their is another story about this location before it was a park. It was home to the JT & KW Railroad & Indian River Steamboat Wharf in 1885 which was the first railroad in the Titusville area.  This set of tracks was a 35 mile stretch of track from Enterprise which also led to a line leading to Jacksonville, Tampa, and Keywest.

The JT & KW Railroad Tracks ran down the middle of the road which today leads to Space View park onto a dock which extended 1500 feet into the lagoon and over the Indian river. The train would stop right over the water right up to the Steamboat Wharf.

The Indian River Steamboat company was established by the railroad to furnish transport for its passenger to points south of Titusville. Because of this Titusville was a bustling little transportation town. The railroad terminal sat on the street of the park probably in the park itself at the Wharf. But it was used to export Indian River Citrus (I love there orange juice) pineapples, and seafood to drawn in settlers to the Indian River area.

In 1893 Henry Flagler a railroad tycoon owned the East Coast Railway which did reach Titusville and soon beyond. This ended the Steamboat era to come to an end in the early 1900s and the JT & KW railroad to be eventually eliminated. Today there are no signs of the wharf, railroad station, or train tracks within Spaceview park. But it just goes to show you that even though to most of you this seems like your typical park it has a long historical significance. So with history also comes Hauntings!
