Evergreen Cemetery in Alden was roughly established in 1813. The cemetery is up on a hill and runs along some old railroad tracks which are still in use today. I assume they call it by this name because of the large evergreens that can be found throughout the area and that run along its road in the back of it. Jos Freeman sent a note that he wanted to purchase 1acre of land for $5 back in the early 1800s which later was made into the oldest cemetery in the Alden area. The cemetery seems to have a variety of headstones a large Celtic cross, a monument that's over 50 feet high, even an angel statue. When walking around you can sense that a lot of the headstones and graves are to close as this cemetery is not that large there are a few hundred tombstones. Some of the headstones are broken in half set up against a tree, while others are very badly weathered. We have to assume since most of the headstones date back into the 1800s that some civil war soldiers are buried here. Alden was not established till the late 1800s which makes this cemetery the oldest in the Alden area. It is a very cozy cemetery to walk around in at night however certain spots give you a sense that you are not alone there. Like any cemetery this one is very special. The stream runs along the back of it has a old western effect to it and it takes me minutes to get to and just sit down and observe a good haunt.
