I did early call this the great Northern Grain Elevator investigation but I was mistaken. This elevator is called Agway/GLF elevators however the Great northern which is America's oldest and only Grain elevator still stands and will be a historical monument in the near future. But our main focus is not the Great Northern but actually a very large complex of 3 grain elevators now owned by the Great Lakes Fishing Club. These elevators were simply used for the unloading of railroad cars. Since there were no docks on the Buffalo River side ships were not load or unloaded from this complex. The elevators were built in the early 1940s and some of the buildings are absolutely in ruins. However the stairwells are very solid and flooring. Most of the complex has alarm sensors so we only got to explore about 20 percent of the area our first time here. These grain elevators were the last built in the Buffalo NY area of this kind. What I can tell you is compared to a person this place is MONOLITHIC in size. There is basements, a few towers which at one time were used for weighing hoppers and distribution sprouts. These elevators are very haunted perhaps someone fell and died or when it was not in storage for boats bodies were dumped off here. However just to walk inside is so incredible to be able to look down into the shafts, take photos, and look up at them and imagine how much history existed at one point there.
