Also the site of Narvaez in 1528 who sought treasure... a man who brought 600 Spaniards to the new world beginning his reign of terror doing horrible things to the natives and its burial grounds. Sunnyside Cemetery is the site of the Day and Hoxie gravesites. Two well known people who formed the Girl Scouts Of America.  Known for its ghost tours this fairly well lit cemetery is just that sunny night or day! Glen Oak Mound Cemetery is one of the only inland mounds in the area. Once the site of a sophisticated tribe it transformed into being a pioneer burial ground where only a few stones remain out of a few hundred settlers of Saint Petersburg.

Fort Mose once sat on an island in a marsh in the 1700-1800s. It was the first freed slave community in the country and the site of a bloody explosion that killed over three hundred residents. Once under control by the British. Spanish and US all that remains of this tragic fort is its stories passed on from generation to generation.
