Tempiute Mountain is the location of an old silver mine which was discovered in 1865 and a small mining camp was started to take advantage of the claim. Today it is a ghost town with foundations, debris, ore chute, and finally the very deep mine. By 1870 the town grew to about 50 townsfolk. This led to a small post office from 1870 to 1883. 

Those times were harsh their was no watering holes like El Dorado Canyon therefore the mine and town had to be abandoned. In 1883 most of the town was deserted until Tungsten was found in 1916. Which I believe mined the location till about 1970 and many structures including a water tank were places all around the mine. In the BW you can see the Chute that we stood on totally amazing to see it in an old photo then to stand on it today.

Many foundations still are scattered around the town stone cabin remains. Their are a few mine shafts we went into the main mine though which is the deepest mine I been in so far. If you were to keep hiking which we came close to their is a wonderful view of both Tikaboo and Sand Spring Valley beyond the mine which is a wonderful area 51 look out point. That is why I chose to investigate this location/

The road leading to the mine is treacherous you have to off road a few miles then park and hike into a canyon with big rocks. In the 1970s the people had trailers here and would park walking in for work each day it was called Tempiute Village. Other times they called it Sand Springs because it sat in the Sand Springs Valley which is 100 miles of desert till you reach Las Vegas.  

The Tempiute village in reality was the town of Rachel which is now the famous area 51 town where locals tell tall tales about UFOs...Aliens...and strange happenings. Some tales true some not but nonetheless the area is probably as haunted as it is full of oddities. 

It was easy to live in the town then go up to the mine to work. The residents were not satisfied with the names of it so they came up with a new one. When Rachel Jones was born in her families trailer and the only child to be born here...they named it after her in 1978.

On my exploration I found a rope in the ceiling that came out onto Tempuite Mountains Peak I also found a room sparkling with silver it was so mystical and my team did not get to see it. But it was something I never will forget. Just imagine climbing into a hole crawling...and going down a tunnel into a big chamber and you shine your lights...then all of sudden the room twinkles. I never will forget this investigation and I hope you cherish it also because I photographed everything we came across.
