The Old St Augustine's Convent called St. Josephs is as much mystery to me as the paranormal can be. I have looked for quite sometime on more history on this place but was unable to come up with much. Just that it was built in the 1868 and now is the old Franciscan Convent. Across the street is a newer convent with I believe four floors.

The Sisters migrated from France to teach the newly freed slaves after the civil war. During this time St. Augustine had many different convents as a way to provide the locals with spiritualism and education. St. Augustine's first bishop Augustin Verot invited the eight sisters and for awhile they moved around as the first place they stayed at was the the Covent of Sisters Of Mary then another convent on Hospital Street which is where I believe we investigated then finally were moved to there former residence called the Christian Brothers. At one time the sisters spoke French so when they arrived here they had to learn English so they could educate the Freed Slaves.

The original convent we investigated  is made out of bricks and has bars on its windows as if it was perhaps a prison at one time. There is a real eerie feeling when you walk around this gothic revival type of structure. Even across the street the convent had this dreary sense.

The convent was part of the old St. Joseph's high school academy which is the oldest catholic private school in the state of Florida.

Convents are some of the most haunted places in the world and perhaps its because some nuns spend there whole life at one eventually dying in a place they found solitude. So there energy chooses to remain behind. Although this is a very eerie place there is a real feeling of warmth here as one of our investigator had something touch him.

So perhaps the world beyond our own eyes shows us that even entities have a sense of compassion for us at this place of history and spiritualism.

Today you can obtain fine hand-made laces and other rare fancy articles manufactured by the sisters of the convents. The fundraising perhaps goes towards a good cause so do not forget to stop by there.
