Midwest while I enjoy being here out west in the mountains sometimes its nice to
check out paranormal hotspots in other parts of the world. Tammy's dad lives in
Illinois and while visiting him she also wanted to introduce me to some of her
hometown hangouts some stranger then others.
We all have those from wherever we are from only difference is
I added my own spin to these locations or mixed a few in myself. Those being The
Seven Gates Of Hell, Famous McPike Mansion, Krome Family Cemetery, Alton
Historic Cemetery, Ancient Piasa Cavern, St. Louis Basilica Cathedral,
the Cohokia Ancient Mound Site, Abraham Lincoln's Home/Neighborhood, Oak Ridge
Cemetery & Lincoln Memorial Tomb and Peoria State Hospital aka Illinois
Asylum for the Incurable Insane. All areas in south to central Illinois and
around St. Louis.
We arrived at the airport at 4am waiting to board our plane
flight United. I actually filmed and took some photos for my friends since some
of them don't fly thought they would love to see my flight over the Rocky
Mountains. It would be a long day but upon landing my first stop would be White
Castle and hell it was the first time ever eating at one so I had about ten of
them lol. Then again I was pretty stoned took this edible before I boarded that
actually was so potent I was stoned for three days after. I hate to fly so this
is how I cope!
When I arrived at my hotel my fridge was stocked with beer and
even pumpkin spice rum courtesy of Tammy's dad who left us a surprise in our
room. One of the first things I did was fix a drink when I arrived. My first day
out here I did not have much planned although I wanted to wrap up the night
portion of the Seven Gates Of Hell then later during the week come back visiting
it during the day. But what a difference in eeriness between the two!
When I first arrived at the tunnels I drove thru the first
couple of them but the exploration took us to the twin gates or tunnels 3 and 4.
You cant drive through them you just have to park and hike from the vehicle.
They are really easy to miss because they sit off to the side even though they
are along the main road.
After researching all these strange tales of monsters in the
area I was exciting to get out and about just to explore the tunnels. The area
is very rural, woodsy and planes were flying really low over us. Other then that
the two tunnels were very quiet. One thing that stood out to me is all the
graffiti some of it seemed Satanic in nature such as symbols or 666 that kind of
thing.
I did not see any animal bones as sites claim but I did hear
some branches breaking hard to know what is in those woods could be people,
animals etc. Its easy to feel watched from the twin tunnels beyond that is a
very dark road who knows where it goes supposedly I read it goes to the death
house but it was to dark to see anything when we were hiking around.
I did get some high readings on my EMF detector but again
their are power lines near some of the tunnels so I cant say that its a ghostly
phenomena. I can say though in a few of the gates it did go off so who knows. My
main concern was running into anyone up here lots of rural roads, did not have
my pistol and I did not know the area well. Tammy however did because as a kid
growing up she knew folks that use to hang up here so she was able to take me to
all seven gates. I had no idea where I was not from here and it gets confusing
back here.
Honestly, their is not that many homes just plenty of woods,
pastures and roads going to nowhere. We spent a couple hours just driving
around. Tammy would drop me off at a gate I would get out take some readings,
maybe a few EVP and photos then move onto the next one. I did not hit them in
order I just wanted to see them all did not care because this was my main
project I wanted to work while visiting up here.
I did not realize it but early on in the night we drove over
acid bridge and here I spent an hour trying to find it later on in the night.
But near where supposedly a ghost car or ghostly accident is scene I did witness
these headlights that just vanished into thin air. The ghost story goes that
some kids dropping acid crashed on the bridge while others said they hit one of
the trestles. I seen the lights near the very trestle people claim to witness
ghostly phenomena at so who knows because before the vehicle got there bam gone
it never came through.
You have to be very careful up here people come speeding
through here and some of the tunnels or gates are very narrow plus dark. I was
more worried about being hit up here over anything else. I had a couple vehicles
nearly hit me most of the time I just ran out of the tunnel hid in some bushes.
I mean this one person kept stalking me back and forth that I did not like. I
mean they would drive past me then a few minutes later turn around drive past me
again. I think more so then cryptids or gates of hell people are to fear with
this place.
The creepiest thing about the area is the dark roads hardly
any light up here and we drove around trying to hit all the gates. Their are no
street lights really a few maybe but most of the lonely stretches of road are
low light areas. I did hear a growl maybe a local dog nearby but hard to say
because where I heard it their were no homes nearby. Maybe it was a hellhound as
the legend is told who knows. I try to keep an open mind because over the years
I have had some strange encounters.
I would return a couple days later after visiting Cohokia just
wanted to see the place during the day. Plus their was a couple cemeteries I
spotted at night I wanted to return to. Two very small cemeteries one being The
Harris Family Cemetery an Gilead Cemetery which is the site of this school and
church dating back to 1824. This is a very old area in a sense what is their not
to love you have all these old train trestles, tracks going everywhere and in
between it all a couple cemeteries.
I did photograph both cemeteries as I thought this would be a
great edition to our site besides just taking a few pics of train trestles. I
will say that all the gates are heavily full of spray paint. The twin gates
someone had recently been there because when we went the recliner was against
the wall then when we returned it was moved near the fire pit inside. My son ran
up the road to see if he seen the death house but according to my notes it no
longer stands.
People are a bit strange in the area some guy was parked on
the side of the road burning things in a fire pit hopefully it was not a body or
something but the evil look he gave me I captured a photo of that. He might have
just been a local who is tired of local kids hanging out and drinking here. But
then again local kids have pretty much dumped, tagged and decimated this area
trying to chase this urban legend for at least forty years.
I cant say that I experienced much of the strange chasing this
urban legend. I did not see a portal into hell or hell hounds but their were a
few minor things that did occur. If I lived here id probably work with it more I
did climb up onto a few trestles just to stare down the train tracks. The one
common thing about this area is all the cryptids were seen along these same very
tracks so who knows but I find it odd.
Its a intriguing here though flowers, butterflies, small
farms, woods, creeks, trains coming through etc. While I have no doubts about
the paranormal activity people witness up here I think the stories are a bit
over exaggerated no less! After a couple hours of exploring the area we decided
to finish up our last place of the day which would be the Krome Family Cemetery
which is in my opinion pretty unique in itself that is why I did not include it
with the Seven Gates Of Hell!

| I just had gotten off the plane was stoned out of my mind of course after delving into the edibles. This is my tray and bag of burgers perhaps I over did it lol. But this was my very first time ever going to White Castle Burger and it was a dream in the making so that deserves a celebration don't you think? |

| Tammys dad hooked us up when I arrived at the hotel room he stocked the fridge with all sorts of adult beverages oh man I was drinking beers and exploring for days lol. The Jack-O Blast was pretty awesome to I had to bust out the wolfman at the moment for things to come you know me and mask lol. Then again it was almost Halloween so yeah a couple hours before we were to leave to The Seven Gates Of Hell at night. Kind of odd to do things first at night then during the day but its also good to be different! |

As I through one of the seven gates we saw this man burning something off in the distance. Notice how he glances up at us its just very odd not sure its wood he is burning or if they are up to any good. But Tammy and I both agreed that it looked like a structure that maybe burned down recently so maybe he was just trying to smolder it or something. But it has weird spelled all over it just saying! Its not like he was burning dead brush in a fire barrel. For all I know the dude is burning bones! I am sure its nothing but I will say some of the locals that stomp around these abandoned trestles are a bit strange. Then again some of them are probably tireds of the kids coming up here drinking, spray painting and loitering no doubt. While its not paranormal its still fits in with our journey of some of what we come across while exploring places like this. You just never know! |
