Like most Catholic Cemeteries this one on the
edge of Savannah is not only historical but gorgeous on every level. It
sits on a small hill has alot of vaults, crypts and even statues. It is
not as large as Bonaventure but it was very significant.
It opened in 1853 and served the Catholics who
came to GA and need interment. There are many monuments but their are also
many significant burials here that do not have gravestones anotherwards
unmarked.
On the way to the Road To Thunderbolt and two
miles from Savannah is where this is situated. On the way back from
Thunderbolt I noticed a gravestone off to my right I was like come are you
kidding me and sure enough I traversed inside. The
first Bishop Diocese of Savannah is buried here Reverend F.X. Gartland. In
1854 when yellow fever hit Savannah he died. Another burial here is that
of Bishop Barron who was involved with foreign jurisdiction with the
church died months later of illness. Bishop bury is also buried here where
he went to see the arch bishop to recover into Paris and died. His body
was moved here so lots of big names in the Catholic history of
Savannah. There are a few
other mentions but what the main question is....is this cemetery haunted?
Yes from my investigation I can tell you this cemetery is perhaps even
more haunted then Bonaventure. Most Catholic Cemeteries are but this one
goes unrecognized in Savannah now hopefully our site can bring this place
alive as currently it does need restoration work.
