Woods Lake resides along the edge of the Eldorado National Forest and Mokelumne Wilderness. Together they encompass an area of at least 1 Million acres which is phenomenally large for something such as Bigfoot to exist. In the 1800's the rich meadows which surround places like Round Top Peak and Lake Winnemucca were cattle ranges. Today nature has reclaimed these areas such as the canyon that takes you to 4th Of July Lake has thousands of berry bushes. Its an area that does not get allot of sun thus snow covers the many high peaks found here most of the year. We found this out when it snowed here in mid September and were not sure the camping area would be open for camping.

This expedition would include multiple places that surround Round Top Peak which includes Woods, Round Top and 4th Of July Lakes. Lake Winnemucca could have been included in this update accept due to high winds we never made it there. This region is no stranger to Bigfoot vocalizations, tracks and even sightings. This is why we had chosen to make the journey here to live for a few days in paradise bringing you this special 1970's rendition of what this location would like in that era. No less the photos are of a beautiful place which in the warmer months blossoms with flowers and butterflies. While in the cooler months most of the region sits under snow and remains nearly untouched by man.

Not to far away from Woods Lake there is a mine with about four cabin sites, an old chassis and rusty machinery from the pulley system. The same pulley system in the 1930's which elevated the miners to the lower levels of the mine. The prime minerals found in this area along Woods Creek is Quartz and Pyrite. Found throughout it were gold and silver found enough to keep the mine open for nearly 30 years on and off. Some lead and copper were also found here as diggings went 700' below!

Today the cabin sites can be seen foundations made of rock and piles of rubble. Most of the wood has been taken by campers and used for campfires. Today some still have claims on that land so do not trespass unless you are their like us to help preserve the site for historical purposes ONLY!

There is at least six other mines located in the region within a reasonable hiking distance. However the Lost Cabin is much more extensive with the fact that the foundations of the cabins still remain. The other mines have been buried by Earth and are nearly impossible to find. A grate covers the main shaft to the Lost Cabin Mine however at one time miners were lowered in shafts deep below the sierras and even Woods Lake.

I would not be able to do such expeditions without the ability to use our advertisements as a fundraiser. Camping in the Woods Lake area is very costly and their is no camp sites on the lake. I prefer to primitive camp but being that these gems reside so close to one another its something everybody should at least do once. The area is overshadowed by The Elephants Back and Round Top Peak along with its sisters. Two major creeks and at least five lakes all are accessible by hiking trails. To get to Round Top Peak you will start off at the bottom which is Woods Lake then you can hike 2,461' to its summit.

There are also many neighboring peaks nearby some of them hardly ever get any human attention at all. I found this region to be very strange sure we did not come up with allot of evidence. But the EVP proves the mine is possibly haunted. The vocalizations I heard and branch snapping may have been an animal but after years of working with Sasquatch I think I got a little to close on this expedition. That is why it makes it such a unique edition to our site especially with a new cam and lots of back up batteries were able to do much more work. So what you will see from this addition is allot of content so that many of you can enjoy the journey as I did through my eyes.

At one time millions of years ago the domes and peaks that you see were active volcanoes. The lakes were lakes of fire not water. It is amazing how millions of years have transformed this wilderness into a lush paradise that you see today. Hiking here is not just a journey its a pilgrimage one that everyone should make if they are able to truly enjoy the high sierras.
