Rock Springs is an area that is about 14,000 acres of vast wilderness covering Orange and Lake counties in Florida. It is part of the Wekiva River Basin which has many other waterways including this one in the forest.

The property was purchased in 1983 for a habitat preservation, watershed protection and to provide recreational activities in Central FL then in the early 90s more land was purchased.

The native American people lived here before the Spanish Explored the area in 1513 but within 200 years of that they were eliminated from this land. Their are many mounds along the Rock Springs Run hidden deeper in the woods.

The area is also part of a 248 park which surrounds the Crystal clear Springs. The springs bubble up from a cleft in a rock outcropping and instead of spreading out into a pool it rather becomes a swiftly running stream which slows down to a meander eventually.

People come here just to get in a nice half hour inner tube ride down the run. The area is very unique cause the cavern is half above land and half above water. You actually have to swim in a small underwater tunnel for about 10 feet and you can pop your head out onto some ledges where the dry cavern is its really awesome.

Its a very cozy place you can camp here, hike, lots of rocks and to get down into the main springs you have to go down sort of into this ravine. Our investigator has done alot of canoeing in the area and their is always something new to see here.

One thing that people must take into consideration is cave diving is EXTREMELY dangerous here in Florida some caves go for miles underwater like a labyrinth and often sand gets stirred up or you take a wrong turn and its your last turn. Alot of bodies per year get pulled out or pop out months later from divers drowning. Its a pretty sad fact but it happens!
