- When you think of Robbers Roost you think of a hideout where those wanted dead or alive often hid out as outlaws. In 1885 it was the supposed site of Horse and Cattle Thieves from Mexico. It was often thought of as a place for robbers when their was a series of bandit robberies along the old Mormon trail which ran from Utah through Vegas to California. Stealing cattle was much more lucrative then buying them in fact it was rather easy to do since the Vegas area at one time was home to many ranches and still some of them thrive today. The area is full of natural vistas and caves of course some of them you have to find hidden amongst the canyon walls. These kind of roost are not a rare find I visited a similar one up in PA many years ago where some thieves had buried some counterfeit minting plates. Stories and legends are told all over the United States some have tales of buried treasure maybe even when it comes to this location nestled up in the Mt. Charleston area. Their is no mystery about the geology of this location at one time being a tropical sea once submerged these canyons and mountains. Inside these canyons and rocks caverns would fill with water thus underground rivers. The water would then flow for thousands of years creating weakness withn the rock along with acidic rain eroding the limestone. Thus the rocks collapse opening up a giant cave in the center free of water leaving vistas on both ends standing. These rocks within the roost are home to many small caves and you can climb around them to the top or go right up them with extreme climbing. Its a place for adventurist and is very well visited although that does not mean the woods around this place are not strange or mysterious. When our team goes out on a hike the skies the limit. Their is nowhere we will not venture or go so we came back to this place a couple times to look around. Often in Florida a cavern below sea level will often cave in creating a sink hole only difference is this cavern was above sea level in a canyon where years of erosion eventually caused it to collapse. Strangely when you hike up the canyon you will eventually come to some naturally formed stairs. The roost area one can find giant stone slabs this once being the roof of the cave. Within the roost their are sandy vistas where thieves could have hid out which can overlook the local lawmen who might stumble up on the location as its sits fairly elevated. The roost is in the spring mountains and not to far away is a natural waterfall and spring which is more active in the winter when snow is very harash up and around this region of Mt. Charleston.

The photos above were taken just a couple days after our visit at the Roost. We posted our ad publicly allowing anyone to join our group for some paranormal discussions. The rockman states that he can use the spirits around him to levitate or rather balance oddly shaped rocks. Some of the rocks he has stacked have been stacked as high as 6 feet tall making you wonder how they stand. The focus and energy this man is capable of us rather intriguing. It is because of the work that we do and continue to do that we encounter so many interesting things. In my opinion I believe that he does have a metaphysical ability most of us do we just have to understand how to applicate these abilities to their fullest. Their is nothing special about these rocks no magnets.....no metal bolts.....nothing sticky. I spent an hour trying to duplicate these rock statues and was not successful. The woods surrounding this location are roughly 400,000 plus acres although the trail in to the roost is about a half of mile. On our first trip we spent the hike out in some sheet ice but found their to be many unmarked overgrown trails deep in the woods along beautiful overlooks of pine forest. The roost is only one of the many features also heard a waterfall not to far away in the distance. A good portion of the year this area remains snow covered and as you can see in the above photos their are hills just as well as thick forest prior to hiking to the vistas or beyond them. 0
The photos above are the vista points and roost itself. The staircase leading up into this place is natural limestone. The limestone formation at one time appeared to be just a side to a small cliff. When that rooftop inside the cave collapsed it left an open cavern split in half by the slabs of limestone which fell. Those exposed areas are vistas in the cliff side which you can climb into. Their are more advanced climbs then the one we did above but nonetheless a little challenging dealing with the slippery smooth limestone which surrounds this cathedral of rock. Its a nice look out point to see the stars I found it peaceful but at the same time their were moments where I thought I heard a voice or felt somewhat watched. Do not attempt to rock climb at night it can be dangerous even deadly. The vistas are high some with steep slopes even drop offs. Their are many large rocks which were part of when the cavern crumbled from years of water eroding the limestone. -
Above are various photos of dens and small caverns that are present around Robbers Roost. Some of them having sandy bottoms which are soft and provided those with a dry safe place to camp. Not sure if outlaws ever hid up here within these vistas which provide these small dens could also hold some history and perhaps maybe even ghost. 0
The roost is full of vivid life such as bats, snakes, spiders, deer, birds and even beetles like the stellar photo of this one upclose. -
