Paisley Methodist Church

We did not start off with plans to investigate this church. But it was our alternative if the other places fell through. So let me talk a little bit about some of the adventures we shared before we arrived at the church since it does tie on into the whole investigation leading up to this historical place.

We started off driving down a dirt road which of course these dirt roads were bandwagon trails which led to ghost towns and settlements back in the 1800s. We first drove down to the Ponceannah intersection where at one time there was an early settlement here. Now there is nothing but trees and not a single sign that anything once stood here. But we slowed down and looked then preceded down the dirt road which ran along the swamp on one side and the woods on another for about a mile.

Due to the heavy rains we started coming across very large puddles and pot holes in the roads so basically at this point we were doing some heavy off roading. If Lee did not have 4wheel drive we probably would not be able to explore back here. It was obvious that we were in a Evergreen forest and some parts of it there was pretty big clearings while other ones were heavily wooded. We were in search of Burnt out Bridge and the Bayview Settlement. We could not find anything. We seen a hard hat hanging off a tree, tighty whities, some shirts but nonetheless there was a very not so nice feeling here. Even the two giant wheeled pick ups that passed us traveled in a group. Yet it was just us alone traveling solo.

We went so far and it came out to a small community almost near a town we investigated a couple weeks ago. So we turned around headed back in the woods. This time strange enough a group of 5 vehicles were ahead of us. It was a bunch of kids mudding, partying and having fun. They seemed a little startled back here and one of the vehicles stalled out and they could not get it started. We tried to offer help and eventually after we waited behind them 15 minutes later they were up and running by towing this vehicle out. They took off and soon again the wooded dirt road became pitch black.

I heard near our vehicle voices I think they were ghostly but they were pretty close so something or someone was out there. Either way it was to close for comfort. It was obvious enough when we sat waiting for them to start there vehicle we heard something strange in the woods and movement.

The one thing we noticed with the group of trucks and kids is they all had spotlights and were shining them out into the woods as if they knew something was out in those woods we know there is and I am sure they did to.  Eventually we passed by them as they came out near the main road turned around and went back up to another dirt road in the woods. Before that though we seen a reddish animal running up the road we were not able to identify it but it was fast like a wild bore. Anways we were in search of the Lightcamp settlement which there are ruins but I guess the Rainbow People were out there camping by them since they had some event going on as to where they first originated. We could not see the ruins but we think that is the area since my research I did seems to point to that area.

We eventually kept going till the road dead ended and there were some restricted trails it was pretty uncomfortable back here. We took another road in the woods and unlike most Florida woods this one reminded me more like being in Pa it was very spread out had a more northern woods ecosystem. This road bothered me alot it was not the type of place you would want to be out walking late at night and we kept hearing in the woods as we were driving some unexplainable noise. This road was the worst ouf of all of them so far but we drove slow and I was shining my light in the woods eventually we came out right into Ponceannah cemetery and were relieved.

Eventually we went to another location which is a hiking area called Fire Tower and the Road to Kismet. It seemed there was a guard dog and ranger living on the property here so another place we had to pass up. But the tower was pretty interesting in the woods I wanted to go up in it so bad lol. We then drove up another road and visited the Disney Homestead and Call House both were inhabited so we were not able to check out the property or houses. The Disney Homestead looked fairly remodeled too sitting in the back of the woods.

Eventually after all that we headed back on into town and parked at Paisley Methodist Church. There is some history to the church but it has that colonial ghostly feel to it so we stopped.

We walked around to the front of the church it was pouring very hard Lee's face was soaked, water dripped off my hat, and Aaron was pulling his shirt over his head. We had a nice leg stretcher though and the church was peaceful. There was a feeling some energy here but very welcoming.

There was a section between the new sanctuary and old where it was real dark. I felt something on this walkway or standing there within the dark looking at us. It also seemed to follow us I noticed once I recognized it or at least knew it was there. We walked around to the backside of the church and took some more photos. I seen a hill and some woods. So we headed back into the woods behind the church.

Back here was peaceful but I thought it was odd that it was so hilly. We took a road that was unused had alot of high grass getting pricked by thorns. The road led to some shed or barn which turned out to be not part of the church so we turned back. But it still was pretty fun to explore a little bit in hope of finding something new to check out.

We then went back to the vehicle the church turned out to be a nice mini investigation. We had spent obviously an adventure driving in the Ocala woods for awhile but everything happens for a reason. We then headed on off to The Paisley Library & Community Park.
