The Mystery of the Potters Fields Hidden In Back Of Oakland Cemetery astounds many. Some people say they are burials from the Warren State Hospital others say that when they built the dam that their graves were moved here. I think some of the burials were moved here from the Old 5th Street Cemetery which sat near the old bridge and another section on the bank of the river.

Reading about some of the local burials is sad like one man he fell in the local Conewango river and drowned. But it is speculation that some of the graves along this river were moved to the potters field I know they were moved to Oakland for sure but records do not tell me what part. As far as the potters field goes I was told that these graves were transfers from another location so its possible they come from the old 5th street cemetery or from when the dam was built.

I notice in the city of Warren graves have been moved on many occasions. Back years ago there was a huge old Indian burial ground and when the dam was built they moved some of the bodies elsewhere but not all of them.  So some of these graves could very well be native Americans or a few from the Warren State hospital.

There is a real haunting feel to this cemetery. It sits way up on a steep hill. There is an old grassy road which you take to an open area in the woods. At night its eerie as hell and trust me I know this cause I did walk back here but did not investigate it cause I did not know that grass road went to the potters field till Jim showed me.

There is not alot of graves here maybe 20 at best unless we have some unmarked burials on the hillside its hard to say. The graves here are all from the 1900s most are so worn you cannot even read them anymore. I seen something up in these woods on my cemetery investigation of St. Joseph's whether it had any relation to the Potter's Field its hard to say.

But even though you will not see any fancy apparition photos this is a must see cemetery.
