Moore Mine was an accidental discovery when I was looking for houses for rent. I went down this woodsy dark dirt road which opens up to where the mines once stood. Part of the mine sits on a hill the other part back in the woods. The mine is historical after all the entire town of Jackson California was built around this area. 

Gold was discovered in 1848 it brought people in from all over the country who wanted to strike it rich. The mine was named after a local lawyer/colonel who was liked by miners named Alden Appola Moore Jackson. So that is how the town of Jackson received its name and the mine was named after him as well. The mining camp grew quickly and it turned out to be a stopping place on the road from Sacramento to other mines in the region near Sonora and Angels Camp. 

Jackson did not start off with a mine but rather a watering hole for cattle but it is however one of the oldest mother lodes mining areas in gold country. Today not much remains but foundations and a few other structures. On part of the property which is private more of the mine can be found which considering grandpappy was out on his porch I felt would not be a great idea to cross the fence lol.

Its not only an area of history but alot of the townsfolk come back here and they hang on out. Trust me I was one of the people that took a lady back here under the moonlight and howled at the moon in her van haha. That is how Jackson CA goes its gorgeous but the locals get bored here and so you either visit these sites or do nothing at all.

If you want deeper history you can read the little sign near the mines entrance. The mine did not open for awhile Jackson was bustling by this time with 1500 townsfolk but it served as a place for commodities for other small towns nearby.

On a good note alot remains to be seen here so I do feel eventually a night investigation will be pretty interesting. The mine sits outside of town in seclusion.
