The Lindsey Lakes area resides deep in the Tahoe National Forest which encompasses about 1,361 square miles of rugged mountains and forest. Within the national forest is the Grouse Ridge area which contains numerous lakes which some can only be reached by backpacking while others via rugged dirt road. The first time I was in this area was when we did some research up at Bowman and Wrights Lake. Bowman Lake is further up north of Lindsey Lakes but it is the largest in the region. While Lindsey Lakes contain four bodies of water their are other lakes in the area not even listed on the map posted to the right. Their are quite a few smaller hidden lakes in the area which is why I chose to research the area.

Three of the four Lindsey Lakes are damned off as a matter in fact while their are some private landowners here PG&E, NID and the Forest Service are prevalent here. Mainly PG&E though because they maintain the dam, water levels and watch over the primitive camp sites that are accessible to the public. We camped at the first Lindsey Lake which gave us access on foot to the other ones including Lake Culbertson, Upper Rock, Lower Rock and Bullpen Lakes. In total our expedition eight to nine lakes although a few of them seemed to me like ponds I felt due to the high amount of water here this could be the main factor is why these Bigfoot like creatures call this volcanic woodsy land home!

Back in the day the area was heavily lumbered for timber but mining also transpired. You had Granite City, Bloomfield, Meadow Lake, Washington, Emigrant Gap Camp, Nevada City and Baltimore Town aka Wrightmans Camp in the area. Their was some small camps near Bowman Lake as well. As a matter in fact our research revealed that their was in fact a Grouse Ridge mine who yielded iron and gold out of it. Today most of them are ghost towns not all but some are semi ghost towns with life still in them but their glory days have come to an end. But for example Baltimore Town is long gone hardly any signs a town existed back here. As a matter in fact you can reach it from Lindsey Lakes just have you are nearly in the hear of Grouse Ridge and for some reason this area has a healthy population of bigfoot like creatures in an area that mainly is accessible on foot so its fairly desolate here if you go primitive.

Back in 1923 a fire look out tower was built at 7,653' however another website stated it was at the 7711' elevation. No matter it is one of the oldest lookouts within the Tahoe National Forest. It was used up until the 1970's and they were at the time going to turn it into a tourist site but it never transpired due to a lack of funding. Nowadays some lookouts on peaks are abandoned others can be rented out if you wish to experience great views in solitude. Fire towers were built all throughout the high sierras that way you could report a fire and see it miles away. On a clear day some fire towers offer 100 miles of views. Today we have different methods for reporting and fighting fires. But back in the day fire towers were like the lighthouses of the high seas as they were necessary.

Hiking through this area reveals over 40 lakes some are primitive meaning their are no trails to get to them. I always find great evidence that bigfoot roams the high sierras when I am able to visit the places most humans never get to see. Its a vast area even the maps do not reveal all its secrets but you have Carr, Island, Round, Glacier Milk, Culbertson, Faucherie, Lower Rock, Upper Rock Lakes just to name some. Rumor has it the most scenic lake and bluest would be Penner which I would love to see someday. Many of the trails require rock climbing over granite terrain while in between are newly formed meadows blooming with wild flowers. Mining and timbering are long forgotten and today its a backpackers paradise full of old wagon roads and trails to pristine clear blue lakes. Some would call this gods country figuratively speaking of course because its kind of like a lost world. You never know what you might find, see or come across when exploring the world that exist below the ridge.  However if you wish to hike the Grouse Ridge trail it is about 8 1/8 miles in length which starts at Eagle Lakes and ends at Sawmill Lake.

Since the 1800's the area was used for grazing as well. Ranchers would heard the cattle, goats and sheep to Grouse Ridge because it is full of lakes and streams. In between them are big open areas for grazing so during the warmer months livestock could be raised here. So you may or may not even still today run into a herd of cattle and you will see them. Not much has changed in the past century the area use to be bustling with mines, timber camps and a few towns but today your witnessing a 100 million miles of history to the birth of the Sierra Nevada's. Then prior to the ice age multiple volcanoes erupted in this area forming granite rocks which during the last ice age sculpted the land leaving behind a rocky landscape and today dense forest. Its a primates dream as when the glaciers melted it formed dozens of lakes and today are dammed off forming reservoirs so that the water could be utilized locally for some of the ranchers and residents alike in the area. Every year snow melts off the ridge down into the basin where various lakes reside today where various rivers and creeks flow.  Their are four Lindsey Lakes three of them are damned off one of the dams of the more secluded of the lakes contains one of the oldest dams in the Tahoe National Forest.

Before the gold rush the ancient Maidu, Washoe and Nisenan Tribes utilized the Grouse Ridge area. Not only did it offer up good fishing but it is rich with wildlife that the tribes would hunt for in this region. The landscape offers some rare but a diverse habitat for wildlife such as the Sierra Marten, Wolverine, Pacific Fisher, Spotted Owl and Snowshoe Hair which I seen on my journey.  As elevation increases their are a conifer hardwood, lodge pole pine and fir forest. Their is a variety of lakes, wet meadows, riparian corridors, fens and patches of alder and willow. Some of the slopes are barren rocky landscapes others are covered in dense foliage. I refer to this place as a world within a world. Since their are many elusive animals here isn't it safe to say Bigfoot could be possibly one of them? I have had multiple bigfoot experiences in this region something is making the large tracks, performing the vocalizations and during a recent journey here I had an experience on a lonely dirt road with strange lights which could be related to the bigfoot activity in the area. Something is throwing the rocks and something is communicating just as the sun goes down and its no known animal! Which makes Lindsey Lakes the perfect gateway into the heart of the Grouse Ridge Lake Basin which still today harbors many secrets!

Trail description: At lower Lindsey Lake a gate controls vehicle access to Culbertson Lake and beyond.  Motorized access is for private landowners.  PG&E, NID and Forest Service only.  One may hike to any of the three Lindsey Lakes or to Culbertson Lake by following the road.  Fishing at any of these lakes is fair to good; however, it is generally agreed that Culbertson Lake provides the best fishing. From Culbertson lake, follow the trail to the Rock Lakes.  Bullpen Lake, to the west, is one of the few lakes in California which is stocked with arctic greyling.  Heavy stands of timber surround the Rock Lakes.  The trail continues east to a point where it joins the Grouse Ridge Trail.

Tahoe National Forest is a U.S. National Forest located in the state of California, northwest of Lake Tahoe. It includes the 8,587-foot (2,617 m) peak of Sierra Buttes, near Sierra City, which has views of Mount Lassen and Mount Shasta. It is located in parts of six counties. In descending order of forestland area they are Sierra, Placer, Nevada, Yuba, Plumas, and El Dorado counties. (The Plumas County and El Dorado County portions are very small; the extent of the forest in El Dorado County is only four acres.) [1] The forest has a total area of 871,495 acres (1,361.71 sq mi, or 3,526.82 km2). Its headquarters is in Nevada City, California. There are local ranger district offices in Camptonville, Foresthill, Sierraville, and Truckee.[2]

Tahoe National Forest has many natural and man-made resources for the enjoyment of its visitors, including hundreds of lakes and reservoirs, river canyons carved through granite bedrock, and many miles of trails including a portion of the Pacific Crest Trail. Also within its borders is the National Wilderness Preservation System's Granite Chief Wilderness.

The forest also serves as the water supply headwaters for the towns of Lincoln, Auburn, Rocklin, California, and Reno and Sparks, Nevada, which receive the water through elaborate canal systems that largely originated during the California Gold Rush and Comstock Lode eras.
