Kenansville was a town formed in the later 1800s
that existed along Flaglers Florida East Coast Railroad. At one time the
train went right down into the middle of the town but the deport along
with tracks are now removed. It was given this name to honor Flagler's
third wife who was named Mary Lilly Kenan.
The legend that is famous with the town is the hotel that inspired Elvis Presley to write his big hit called "Heart Break Hotel" and today that hotel still stands after being restored into a gift shop and place for tours. Their is still the old well outside and the hotel looks very much the same. We have photos of the well on the paracomedy 2006 page and of course below are a couple photos of the hotel. When the railroad stopped the town started to die along with it. Today its what you would call a semi ghost town with a few abandoned places. But we did not find many probably because they are being restored such as the old brick bank. When you click the investigation 1 photos you will see a dirt road this is the old Peavine Wagon Road which goes through scrub and hammocks. Its very wide and was used by pioneers back in the 1800s and still looks exactly how it did a century ago and it is spooky as hell. Near that road is a local haunting where screams can be heard of a woman getting beat to death. She is said to haunt the area and I would believe it cause its a hell of an eerie little town. There is a few other historic sites we could not get to but the cemetery is the main one we explored with its many early settlers buried here. © By Lord
