JL Saxon Riverfront Park In Daytona Beach  is perhaps like the Central Park of NYC. Long before I knew of any Hauntings or ghost stories told by various locals I was infatuated with this park and to prove it I took some daytime photos when I first moved here. Maybe that is one of the benefits of being a psychic is that certain places call out to you more then others which allows me to investigate so many great places such as this one.

Riverfront park runs along the Halifax and it actually thins out along the river I cannot wait to do some fishing one of these nights up there. But the park features two giant gazebos, many small wooden bridges which cross over little streams, and veterans monuments. There is even an area where concerts are held for example for Bike Week. Last year George Thorogood played here Bbbbbbbad to the Bone wooohoo!

The park is well known for lovers to get married but it also is a standout in Daytona's Market Place District or rather it over shadows downtowns historical business district where many theatres and old shops run parallel with the park. All the little events such as Christmas Tree Lightings or Town Events take place here.

The park was donated to the City Of Daytona by Burgone. You can learn all about Burgoyne from our Pinewood Historical Cemetery investigation so please refer to that. The park is near the cemetery but it also sits next to many other locations that have ghost stories of there own places like The Lillian Place or Some of the haunted shops which line the Halifax. The park eventually leads you to city island where Jacky Robinson Memorial Ballpark sits. So there is alot of history to the area. Burgoyne used the park to throw together events for the visiting Tycoons this would help gain there interest so that commerce could develop in the Daytona Beach area.

Lets talk about some of the haunts there are quite a few ghost stories related to the park and from our first investigation of it despite how brief it was we also had a wonderful experience here where a stick flew past us. After careful review I believe it was Brownie The Town Dog's Ghost. Brownie was a stray dog which use to wander around the shops and one day visited the local fire station. The firefighters made a doghouse and eventually this friendly dog became the town mascot for Daytona Beach. Donations would pour in so the firefighters could feed him, take care of Brownie etc etc eventually the dog passed away from old age but just about anybody who lived or ran a business downtown was familiar with this friendly little dog. When the eulogy and funeral  took place it was one of the largest ones in Daytona in the 1940s led by the mayor. He was buried in the park and his grave is marked with a dog shaped topiary tree. Many folks claim to have experiences with this ghostly dog such as hearing barks, sightings, and other occurrences.

Then a bridge which is near the start of where the park begins is also said to be haunted. Several late night drivers and people out walking have seen the ghost of a Dark-Haired woman in a nightgown. Who she is or why she is roaming the bridge is a mystery. It could be the wife of Burgoyne since further up the road is Pinewood Historical Cemetery which she would visit religiously everyday.

Then in 1987 near Riverside Park a photographer for the Sanford Newspaper witnessed and photographed a most unusual phenomenon. He silently watched a figure of a lady walking along the Halifax River. As he kept watching a ghost ship pulled along side her picked up her up. She stepped up onto the deck and the misty figure and ship vanished into thin air.

So lots of different ghost stories surrounding the park whether there is truth to them I do not know but over the next few investigation we hope to bring you real stories and photos. Our first investigation was very brief probably a five minute walk only into the northern section of the park. The southern section is much larger something we will work on in the future. But based on all the compiled stories over the years something lurks Riverfront Park in Daytona and it is watching You!
