The first building used for about 10 years as a live theater was an ice storage plant which was built but James W. Simpson and George Patterson. Remember Simpson Cove? Well it was named after him when Palm Island Park was erected. The theatre was a citrus packing plant and a World War II youth center. In 1949 after the war the building was renovating but to me it still looks like a factory or warehouse. The ice House players had the building reconstructed or more modernized. The Ice House Theatre was built on a site that had a fire which was the Swanson House. I am not sure if anybody died but I thought it was strange that one of the oldest and first houses built in Mount Dora burned down. Local residents named Bill Barker, Celiia C. Shaw, and Gordon Goodrich envisioned a nonprofit theatre company that would inspire the children of the local residents of Mount Dora and bring families closer. After the renovations were made the Ice House Theatre housed 275 seats. Many shows take place like Cats and Evita for example. The theatre has a real eerie feeling I feel as though their is not many ghost here but their is one or two that have been here for a long time. More then likely they are probably very active inside rather then surrounding the theatre. Their is a food court outside the theatre as well which has tiki lamps. Its a rather nice place but not like all the theaters we investigated this one was a factory turned into a theatre so it still has that warehouse type of look. © By Rick-LordOfThyNight
