When we hear the word Shady Rest it often gives
you an eerie feeling makes you feel like its some cemetery on a hill but
honestly this Shady Rest is located in Holly Hill and was called this
because of the vast amount of trees which grow within the cemetery. As you
walk down the paths in the cemetery it is very dark because many large
tree grow blocks out the sky.
Surprisingly the cemetery is full of many world war veteran's and Masons. Many of the graves have Mason written on them or have a flag near their stone. Trying to find an old stone here is rare although doing some research I found one lonely grave from 1882 with a burial by the name of Jas Cooper. Then 25 years later the burial of Bernice Dugger followed then 13 years later Annie Dorset's Burial followed after that. So their was not alot of burial when the cemetery formed but then when the 1939 came around after that burials were just about consistent every year. The cemetery was made to look very old their are at least five entrances two of them with stone pillars, one with bricks and the original with Roth iron gates. I do not find the cemetery to be overly haunted although their are alot of Mausoleums with dark walkways one of those we heard a coffin moving so their is some activity here. I think much more remains to be seen and if anybody has any further history they wish to contribute I will be more then happy to add it. © By Rick-AngelOfThyNight
