The Historical District of Daytona is said to be one of the most haunted places in Volusia County perhaps because every Salon or Shop has some kind of ghostly tale. Any given evening during the winter months downtown late at night is much like a ghost town as Main Streets shops line the streets with old lamps, dimly lit shops, and imaginations running wild. Then another section of downtown perhaps the oldest from the 1870s is Old Daytona where there is a Seaside Music Theatre, The Angell & Phelps Chocolate Factory and other little cafes.

Perhaps one of the most well known places on main street during events like bike week is The Boot Hill Saloon or Dirty Harry's.  Many of the old antique shops date back to the 1800s giving it the old west type of scene. Daytona Beach downtown however is a lot like DeLand so please refer to that investigation to see similar architecture and of course the photos on this page. Many places like Daytona Beach around Florida are similar very historical looking and vibrant as palm trees line the streets and flowers. During Christmas its wreaths, X-Mas lights, holly, and Christmas Trees in many of the shops and on there upper balconies.

I could spend hours going into the history of all the different shops downtown but I want to focus on the ghost. Many people claim to have seen some form of the supernatural downtown. I would imagine this would occur very late night when hardly anybody is out. As there are many different alleys and vacant buildings during the winter months. In the summer there is so many bikers and tourist that all night long people are walking around.

Many of the houses near downtown have been torn down many were said to be haunted and now since there are no houses the ghost wander aimlessly around downtown. A famous ghost story is about a ghostly man who is seen near downtown. In the 1970s his girlfriend murdered him to collect his checks.

Another ghost story is about a headless ghost seen near downtown. They believe it is Adler Rawlings who was buried in Pinewood Cemetery. Rawlings was the Chief Of Staff At Halifax Hospital. The story goes one night his casket and remains were thrown out into the road downtown Daytona by some teens. When police did arrive at the scene they did not find his skull and put the remains back inside the coffin and crypt. Perhaps in some way this has upset the ghost of Adler Rawlings but that is just another example of the ghost stories that circulate downtown.

Rather then us get into a ghost tour rather I would like to share some of the photos we will be taking downtown over the next few investigations the photos will tell us a little more about how much energy is downtown and for most they would not even know it. Imagine the 1000s that walk into the Boot Hill saloon and do not realize that there are entities all around them enjoying bike week as they are. Downtown is full of history, beautify and mystifying events and now PGS brings them to you!
