Harwood Coquina House & The Fairchild Oak

We walked on in down a very dark road with just a little light coming from the rangers house.  It was really hard to see till we came out into a clearing. The clearing had alot of very old trees some of them hung really low others towered above the rest. This area felt like some ancient forest or mystical.

We went further up the road and came to a path I almost walked right into a giant stone on the ground again being clumsy lol. Lucky Steve seen it or I would have went flying. We walked a little ways up to a trailhead called the Wahlin Trail noticed it was closed not like I follow signs anyways lol.

But instead of taking the trail since it would take us to some ruins it was easier to take another road which would save us a great deal of hiking. Off to our right however was a little Coquina house known as the Harwood House. It was not very large but had a giant Chimney, some roof clay tiles in a pile and it was in very poor condition.

The whole entire house had an eerie or gloomy feeling. Which when you read the history you will understand why but it is true you can feel the sadness here. I did not notice nothing out of the ordinary but I walked on the back side of it and it just did not feel comfortable at all felt like something was trying to touch me from behind. We took a few photos then proceeded to walk back down a path to a historical bulletin board explaining a little bit about the Fairchild Oak.

We were like where is this tree because it was so dark out and honestly there is alot of trees in the area so I was not sure if we would have to hike a trail to get to it because there was no directions or whereabouts on the board just a history. I then looked about 100 feet behind and noticed a black mass and no it was not paranormal just a towering shadow. I shined my spotlight and there it was the Fairchild Oak also known as haunted oak.

I was like a kid in a candy store I'll tell you. The size of this tree was unbelievable some say its 400 years old some say 2000 but none the less it is one of the largest trees in the south and perhaps the entire east coast. The branches of the oak tree extended so far out that they were laying an growing on the ground. The trunk was very massive and honestly you just could not photograph it. But we did try and take some photos of it anyways so you could get to see it.

This tree had alot of energy it was enormous whether it would have been ghostly or just the tree radiating life its hard to say. But I really did not want to leave the tree I feel there is much more to discover here. Also the boulder in front of the tree had a plaque on it so this tree is a very well known historical site in the area. I would consider myself lucky to have seen it and yes we will return and work on some Ectoplasmic shots around the tree itself in the future.

We then walked back out of the area it was pretty peaceful but we hustled a little more then we did entering and I was quite pleased that we found these two places at least now we know where they are and so we headed on off to our next area which was the Fairchild Plantation.
