Happy Hunting Grounds Cemetery was erected in 1905 when an Ann Snooks passed away. Then for 80 years the cemetery remained forgotten all the way up until 1985 when burials began to continue. Today there are only 14 graves within this place of the dearly departed. Most of the burials are veterans who served the United States today however they have been forgotten as flags are frayed blowing in the wind.

The Pine Nut Mountain range is a vast wilderness where the cemetery resides. It was used for centuries by the Washoe Tribe who hunted this region and collected the Pinion Pine nuts as a diet staple. The nuts would have to be gathered, roasted then cached for the harsh winter months. There was also silver and gold found in this region. When Gardnerville Nevada was being built it provided timber for the building of its structures and charcoal for smelters..

The area surrounding the cemetery is rather secluded with the exception of a few ranches. My organization enjoys visiting sites like these with good reason. This is a forgotten location many of the locals are not even aware that this cemetery overlooks the town below. However we wanted to take this burial ground and make it into something more to be valued by our viewers since the conditions of it are very deplorable we can salvage what is left through our work.

Surrounding the cemetery has also been used as a dumping ground which saddens me. Back in 2011 a fire nearly threatened this burial ground but it has managed despite all the mishaps to survive. Today if one were to walk amongst the graves you would not find anything fancy other then some hand poured concrete stones, wood crosses and even some tree stumps which serve to mark the names of locals who once lived in the pine nut mountains.

It is more then likely that this is a poor mans graveyard as everything is custom made. There are signs of some Washoe tribal members buried here for example a dream catcher hand crafted was found hanging on the fence. Its also obvious that there is some earthquake activity as the concrete stones have all shifted.
